PAGE 20 , ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS THURSDAY, MAY 29, 1975 Huron considers teaching homemaker (by Shirley J. Keller) There is a real possibility that a teaching homemaker will be engaged in Huron County under the direction of the Social Services committee. Committee chairman Ervin Sillery said the three main duties of a teaching homemaker would be to supervise the individual homemakers hired by the Social Services committee on a contract basis; to be available for home- making on an emergency basis tar e animal Residents near Grand Bend have reported spotting a large animal prowling in a ravine be- side the Lake Huron water supply plant. The animal is described as a large cat about four feet long. Provincial police at Grand Bend said the animal might be a lynx or bobcat. They request that anyone who has seen the animal report it to their nearest OPP detachment, A similar occurrence was reported ii Goderich recently, but the animal was never found, uthority (continued from page 1) registered to the proposal. He suggested that if a county authority was formed, there woull be one manager, one mainten- ance man and a clerk -typists needed as staff. John Lyndon, Goderich, presently serves as part-time manager of the Goder- ich and Clinton housing auth- ority as well as having other duties throughout Huron with OHC. (for example nights and weekends and to carry a homemaking case- load similar to the regular field workers from Social Services. specifically to work with house- wives and mothers in need of advice concerning household budgets and nutrition and child care, "In some cases more is requir- ed than just a hand-out of money, Mr. Sillery's report stated. "A teaching homemaker should be able to improve the quality of life for persons receiving long term assistance by teaching budgeting, shopping skills, meal planning, etc. This should ensure that the money is being spent more wisely and for the benefit of all members of the family." County councillors learned that a middle-aged person with plenty of experience in the homemaking field plus common sense and the ability to work with people in all walks of life would be the type of person hired as a teaching homemaker. The initial salary would dep- end on past experience and educ- ation and would have to be in line with the present salary range for field workers. Should a teaching homemaker be hired, the salary and all expenses in connection with the work would be subsidized by the Province of Ontario by 80 percent. John Tinney, chairman of the board of management at Huron - view, announced that June 15 to 21 is Senior Citizens' Week.
