Christian Women's Club.
• The Mathonia Family, of Zur-
ich provided a musical program
on Friday night. Mr. George
Mathonia and his two sons, Ray-
mond and Peter, play as a group
and solo numbers with accord-
ions. Margaret Kehn thanked the
entertainers on behalf of the
residents.
• The Bluevale's Women's Inst-
itute were hosts for the May Birth
day Party with Mrs. Wendell
Stamper emcee for the afternoon,
Mrs. Donald Street and Mrs.
Carl Johnston led a sing -a -long
of action song and requests, Miss
Karen Armstrong danced to
Scottish numbers, the sword
dance and highland fling. The
22 residents having birthdays this
month received gifts from the
institute and Mrs. Wagner who
was celebrating her 80th birth-
day on Wednesday expressed the
appreciation of the residents.
The ladies of North Street
United Church in Goderich spon-
sored a scenic drive and picnic
supper at Menesetung Camp for
their church members. Twelve
residents took advantage of the
outing which they thoroughly
enjoyed.
Students work for Conservation
The technical portion of the
Ausable-Bayfield Conservation
Authority's 1975 SWEEP Program
is now well underway. This
summer's SWEEP (Students Work-
ing in an Environmental Enhance.
ment Program) program is offic-
ially known as program number
26 to the Ontario Government's
Summer Experience '75 and is
sponsored by the Ontario Youth
Secretariat in co-operation with
the Conservation Authorities of
Ontario and the Ministry of Nat-
ural Resources. Experience '75
is designed to provide Ontario
students with employment that
is also an educational experience
This summer the Ausable-
Bayfield Conservation Authority
has employed eight technicians
who will be working on a numb-
er of authority projects in all
parts of the watershed . Jim
Rowat, from Seaforth, has been
employed as a Planning Technic-
ian and his major project will
be to survey the. lower Bayfield
river and determine the area's
potential for conservation purp-
oses. Jim is a geography student
at the University of Toronto and
he has had considerable exper-
ience working for the Authority
in the past.

Guelph, and she has been re-
employed as the Information and
Education Co-ordinator. The
major objective of Carolanne's
work is to keep the general pub-
lic informed of the Conservation
Authority's programs and projects
as well as its aims and objectives
through the various forms of
communication media.
This summer's Forestry Tech-
nician is Blaine Stephenson of
Varna who recently graduated
from Sir Sanford Fleming in Lind-
say. Blaine will be inspecting
the Authority nurseries and arrang
ing for any necessary mainten-
ance and improvements. He will
also be working with the Farm
Tree Replacement and Improve-
ment Program, and will provide
a forestry input to other Authority
projects and plans.
Another recent graduate of
Sir Sanford Fleming who has
been employed by the Authority
for the summer, is Mike Eyre
from London. Mike graduated in
the Fisheries and Wildlife Tech-
nician course and has been
employed in that capacity. Mike
will be doing quite a bit of work
in the Bannockburn Conservation
Area developing wildlife habitats
and he will also be conducting
a fish and wildlife inventory of
various conservation areas.
Laurie Toffelmire from Wat-
ford is the new Parkhill Recreat-
ion Co-ordinator. Laurie is a rec•
reation student at the University
of Waterloo. At the Parkhill
Conservation of recreational
events for the area's visitors.
The new Outdoor Education
Technician and Camp Sylvan
co-ordinator is Dave Sinclair.
Dave is from London and has
just graduated from Althouse
College after receiving his B.
Sc., at the University of Western
Ontario. For the first part of the
summer Dave will be working
and living at the Camp Sylvan
Conservation School near Sylvan,
Ontario. There he will be help-
ing school teachers prepare and
co- ordinate an educational stay
for the students visiting the
camp. The Camp Sylvan Cons-
ervation School has become one
of the Authority's most success-
ful education projects. Later
in the summer Dave will be prep-
aring detailed teacher guides for
use at the Bannockburn and Park-
hill Conservation Areas. These
guides can then be used by teach -

A grant of $57, 750 for flood -
plan mapping in the watersheds
of the Ausable-Bayfield Conserv-
ation Authority have been appr-
oved by the Ontario government,
Natural Resources Minister Leo
Bernier Announced.
The grant represents 75 per
cern of the total estimated cost
of $77, 000 for the project which
will be carried out in four phases
during 1975 and 1976.
The mapping is essential for
identifying areas susceptible to
flooding and for the filing of
water and fill regulations. The
maps will also be of assistance
to municipalities in planning
development within their jurisd-
iction.
The project will also include
preparation of an engineering
report that will make preliminary
recommendations on corrective
and preventive works for flood-
ing and erosion problems as may
be undertaken by the Conserv-
ation Authority throughout the
study area.

Anne Harrison from Monkton
has been employed as SWEEP
secretary. Anne has received
her degree in Sociology from
Glendon College, York Univer-
sity in Toronto. Anne has had
previous experience doing SWEEP
secretarial work and willbe a
valuable member of the staff.
The Senior Supervisor this
year is Don Pearson from Grey
Township. Don Will be suprevis-
ing the SWEEP crews which are
scheduled to begin work in June.
He will be responsible for co-
ordinating the various crew proj-
ects requested by municipalities
in the watershed as well as help-
ing to supervise some of the work
done by the crews for the cons-
ervation authority. Don is a grad.
nate in Biology from the Univer-
sity of Waterloo and he has had
a number of years experience
working with SWEEP.
Many projects have been lined
up for the SWEEP technicians and
the Ausable-Bayfield Conservat-
ion Authority is looking forward
to a successful SWEEP program
again this summer.
