UNITED CHURCH NOTES
Rev. Don Beck preached on
the sermon topic "Be My Witness'
for the service of worship in
Hensall United Church Sunday
morning. Under the direction of
Mrs. Turkheun, the choir sang
a number. Following the service,
a presentation and receiving line
was held for those who have been
associated with the United Churcl
fot the past 50 years. They were;

Mrs. Ella Drysdale, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Corbett; Roy Brock,
Greta and Amy Laramie, Mrs.
Pearl Passmore, Mr. and Mrs.

years from Chiselhurst United
Church were Alfred Ross, Mrs.
Mabel Glenn, Mrs. Pearl Taylor,
Isabel Brintnell, Mrs. Eliza
Kinsman, Mrs. Agnes McLean,
Harvey Jacobi, Mrs. Dorothy
Brintnell, Mrs. Boyce, and Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Parker.
Unfortunately the 50 year pins
did not arrive in time for this
event, so will be presented later.
A closed-circuit T.V. was in
action in the downstairs of
Hensall United Church for those
who could not manage the stairs.
This unit is expected to be used
more in the future. Next Sunday,
June 1, will be Confirmation

Mrs. Roy McDonald and Mrs.
Triebner visited Roy McDonald.
Visitors with Vera Laramie
were her sister Loreen and her
husband John Paisley, Mr. and
Mrs. C. Drought of Port Severn,
and Chester Dunn.
W.E. Parker of Bayfield visit-
ed his sister, Mrs. Featherston.
Visitors with Lynn Latimer
were Ruth Johnston, Exeter, Betty
and Cecil Smith.
Gladys Simpson of Exeter visit-
ed with Louise Mitchell.
CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY
On Sunday evening, May 25,
a family dinner was held in the
Hensall Legion Hall in honour
of the 35th wedding anniversary
of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Noakes.
All their immediate family with
the exception of Dr. and Mrs.
David Noakes and Jeffery of
Guelph attended. The couple
received many lovely gifts.
The event was planned and
convened by their family.
ST. PAUL'S CHURCH
Rev. G.A. Anderson conducted
an evening service at St. Paul's
Anglican church. The text of
the sermon was "Uncomfortable
Words." Gail and Don Travers
sang two duets "He Lives" and
"In the Garden. The Forrest
orchestra played during the serv-
ice.
On Sunday, May 25 a miscell-
aneous shower was held in the
Hensall Legion Hall in honour of
Sheila Sangster of Toronto. The
bride-to-be received many
lovely gifts and good wishes.

Marion Pebbles of London conv-
ened. Guests were present from
Toronto, London and Hensall.
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Van
Dyke and Agnes of Bradford
visited on Monday with Mr. and
Mrs. Sim Roobal.
Mrs. Laird Mickle spent last
week in Hamilton. visiting with
her son Charles, who teaches at
the Sir John A. MacDonald
Secondary School in that city,
and while there attended the
concert presented by the Hamil-
ton Philharmonic Orchestra with
the Toronto Mendelssohn choir of
150 voices performing "Handel's
Greatest Hits " at Hamilton
Place.

VARNA 4-H CLUB

The second meeting of the
Varna 4-H Garden Club was held
May 12 at the home of Mrs.
Keith Stephenson.
The president, Kathy Peck,
opened the meeting with the 4-H
Pledge and then on to the roll
call. Laura Taman read the
secretary's report and then we
decided on the "Trolling Tillers"
as our club name.
We discussed preparing the
soil, -growing young plants for
transplanting, and planting the
garden. We also discussed ways
of looking after your garden
