Paul Carroll
seeks nomination
for Huron NDP
Paul Carroll, twice a loser as
the NDP candidate in the provin-
cial riding of Huron, last week
announced his intention to seek
the nomination for a third time.
Noting that his past efforts
"have not been fruitful, " he said
"the opportunity for presenting
a sound alternative has been
successfully undertaken and I
am prepared to continue that
effort with all the conviction
of my political beliefs."
Mr. Carroll, a Goderich resi-
dent, is vice-principal of
Seaforth Public School.
A second candidate who has
already announced his intention
to seek the NDP nomination is
Philip Walker, Grand Bend.

Zurich Mets down Clinton Colts
The Zurich Mets opened their
season in the Huron -Perth base-
ball league on a winning note
Sunday afternoon, as they hand-
ed the league -winning Clinton
Colts a 4-2 setback. The loss
was the first for the Clinton
squad on their hon -re diamond in
two years.
Rich Schilbe spearheaded the
Zurich attack with two doubles
and a single as well as a stolen
base. Banging our singles for the
locals were Steve Bedour, Ger-
ard Charrette and veteran hurler
Dick Bedard.
Zurich posted their first two
runs in the fifth inning, with two
out. Percy Bedard worked a base
on balls, stole second and third
and made roam for Kevin Mc-
Kinnon to reach first on another
base on balls. This set the stage
for Schilhe's first double, scoring
both runners.
The final two runs carne in
the eighth when Schilbe led off
with a double and advanced to
third when Glen Overholt walked,
A single by Steve Bedour advanc-
ed both runners, and Charrette
followe up with another single,
to account for the final two runs.
Clinton scored both their runs
in the third inning, when they
carne through with two of the fou

to Dashwood to take on the Tig-

their home game with Dashwood

Two teachers currently employ
ed with the Huron County Board
of Education will be leaving
next Monday for a three-week
course on physical education in
Moscow, Russia. Ron McKay,
the principal of Ilensail Public
School, and Bill Weber,
a physical education teacher
at Central Huron Secondary
School in Clinton, will leave
London on Monday and arrive in
Moscow at 1:40 Tuesday morning.
They return to their respective
positions on June 14.
. The two teen will attend a
total of 5n hours in lectures, as
well as spending considerable
time in practical sessions of
volleyball, basketball, track
and field, gymnastics, wrestling,
weight -lifting and hockey. The
time will be a heavy work period
for the two, as they are schedul-
ed to begin activities at 7,30
a.ut. each day, and continue
• through until at least midnight
on most days.
They will also attend a numb-
er of major sports events such as
soccer, wrestling and track
meds. Also included in the three
week schedule are tours of
major tourist attractions such
as the Kremlin, major sports
complexes, and art centres. A
ballet is also included in their
it inerary.
Cost to the Huron County
l3oarcl of Education for each rep-
resentative is $945 with the bal-
ance of the expenses being taken
care of by the U S . S . R. govern-
ment. The $945 includes their
return air fare.
On their return to IIuron Coun-
ty, the two representatives will •
hold seminars and pass their
valuable 'earnings on to the rest
of the teachers in the system.
During the absence of Mr.
McKay from the lienal' Public
School his position will be filled
by Spencer Jeffrey, currently
the vice-principal of IIuron
Centennial School at Brucefield.
