Second Ontario
pork congress
Last year in its first year of
operation, the Ontario Pork
Congress reported an attendance
of over 6, 000 from all areas of
the pork industry. This year,
with only minor modifications, •
the Ontario Pork Congress, to be
held June 17, 18 and 19 at the
Stratford Coliseum, anticipates
an attendance of over 10, 000.
The three-day event brings
together representatives of
every sector of the pork industry;
from producers, both commer-
cial and purebred, to equipment
dealers and pharmaceutical
companies, enabling them to
share ideas, information and
technical advancements.
An expansion of an excellent
educational program and several
improvements in services avail-
able throughout the three days
have been planned for the 1975
event. More than 75 exhibitors
will be displaying products and
services in over 14, 000 square
feet of exhibit space.
On June 17, the Show and
Sale of Purebred Gilts and Boars
will be held. Station -tested
boars and home -tested purebred
stock will be evaluated and sold.
In the evening, a Junior Barrow
Show will take place.
The Feeder Pig Show and Sale,
June 18, is the only show of its
kind in Canada, and feeder pigs
weighing from 40 to 60 pounds
will be judged and sold.
For Market Pig Day, June 19,
nominated barrows that have
been weighed on test at the end
of April will be weighed off test
and judged and sold.
An educational program will
be held each morning from 10
a.m. to 12 noon.

Developer to fight Stanley
Cottage development has been
halted in Stanley Township but
Zurich developer Anthony
Denomme still hopes to put his
proposal for a subdivision through
Stanley Council for approval and.
predicts the building ban will be
lifted within a year to 18 months.
A possible sale of his land,
located along Lake Huron, south
of Bayfield fell through, Den-
ornme said, when the buyer lear-
ned of council's ban of cottage
development. He plans to retain
the land until the ban (under
Huron County's land use plan),
is lifted; "Once the avilable lots
designated for cottage develop-
ment have all bee sold."
Last month Stanley Township
Council rejected subdivision
plans brought forward by Denorn-
me and London realtor, Wilf
Webb on the grounds that the
Township had enough cottages,
and that further attempts at
taking good agricultural land out
of production should be closely
examined.
Webb had no sympathy for
council's desire to preserve good
farmland, and claimed he had
undergone great expense ($8, 000)
in hiring planners and soil exp-
erts on the understanding that
council would approve of the
proposed subdivision.
However, Township Reeve,
Anson McKinley, said council
had only tentatively approved a
small portion of Webb's plan for
cottage development.
"He (Webb), proposes to build
a good farmland. There's a gully
running through the property, but
there are a lot of people working
the land around that area, " he
said. "Council wants a plan
where the people of the townshp
have lots more to say in how
their land is put to use."
Webb said that seven of his
70 acres lacked topsoil, were
poorly drained and broken up by
a deep ravine.
Webb, who is a partner in

Lakeshore Development of Lon-
don, threatened to take the ban
up with the Ontario Municipal
Board but at press time was
unavailable for comment as to
how serious he was about lodg-
ing a complaint with the 0M13.
Warden McKinley said he felt
sure that the county's plan would
prevent Webb from developing
his property, but added, that
council would pass a zone bylaw
as a "safety measure" until an
ammendment could be made to
the county plan. He said the
rejection of the two subdivision
proposals did not mean all future
cottage development was being
prohibited.
Director of the Huron County
Planning Board, Gary Davidson,
said in an interview, that he had
received applications for an
emmendment to the county plan
from Stanley Council and Webb.
"As I understand it, Stanley
Council wants an ammendment
to the county plan which would
control development in the
county as a whole, " he said.
At present, each municipality
does a secondary land use plan
of its own.
Webb's arnmendment to
the county plan calls for an ext-
ension to the land used for cott-
age development.
"It comes down to a question
of which resource is the more
important, " Davidson said.
The OMB is in the process of
investigating the claims of both
parties and Davidson said he exp•
ected a decision to be handed
down sometime in June.
Another decision has been
reserved till next month --this
time by council. Clerk Mel
Graham said a building grant
application from Alexandra Mar -
ins and General Hospital in God-
erich wouldhave to be carefully
considered before council could
make a final judgement.
