News of Bayfield SENIOR CITIZENS The Bayfield Ever Young Senior Citizens had the priviledr of hosting the Jolly Jay's, a happy group of Senior citizens of London,' on Thursday evening who put a really marvellous concert for us. We also invited the Golden Radar Club from Clinton and the Golden Gate Club of Goderich to visit with us; totalling approximately 135 senior citizens with a few of their friends packed into the Trinity Church Parish Hall. Our president, Mrs. Lloyd Makins welcomed the entertain- ers and all the guests and asked the president of the Jolly Jay's Mr. Frank Baxter, to tell us how they got their name. He asked the M.C. Mrs. Margaret Bolton to explain. She said it was start- ed by two ladies whose names were Jean and Jessie and when they decided to enlarge the group, they called themselves the Jolly Jay's. They havel5 members in their orchestra, but only 12 were able to be with us, and they entertained with a beau• tiful old time concert beginning with the Senior Citizens theme song "Enjoy Yourself." They had an orchestra (not the Lawrence Welk type) but one lady played on a saw, one on a silver bell, one gentleman was excellent with the bones also with the triangle, a small kettle drum and with the tamborine made a very pleasing orchestra. A Scotcl Senior Citizen gentleman of 78 years sang two Scottish songs in a clear strong voice and demon- strated with his final number "The Wiggle Waggle 0' the Kilt". He said he had been a barner, and regalled us with some of his best variety of barb - Visit Our Store FOR A COMPLETE LINE OF Groceries * Confectionery * Novelties Dairy Store MAIN ST - ZURICH PHONE 236-4930 EXPERIENCE '75 A program co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture & Recreation, as part of the Ontario Governments overall. "The Holy City and In the Garden were beautifully played on the saw, and with the addit- ion of the silver bell, the "Bells of St, Marys" was lovely too. We had rnouthorgan selections and one of their very young 72 year old citizens dressed in a tight fitting bright red dress gave a renditionof the "Dark - town Strutters Ball' and "Oh Jonny Oh," The Senior Citizens song was sung to Onward Christ- ian Soldiers, this was new to our Club, but will be quickly learn- ed and sung at our meetings. The solos and duets were all beautiful to listen to. There was no inter- mission, but a continuous hour and a half program. Mr. Harry Baker in a very humorous way, thanked the Jolly Jay's and asked them to come back again, and thanked the Goderich and Clinton' groups for coming. While the Bayfield group were getting lunch ready, everyone else enjoy. ed a visit with their neighbour and the Jolly Jay's. It was a tight squeeze, but we managed to serve a lovely lunch to every- one along with the usual cup of tea or coffee. A vote of thanks was given to our president, Mrs. Makins for arranging such a delightful evening for us and we also thanked Trinity Church for the use of their hall.
