CWL 25 years old

A very special and enjoyable
evening was held on May 6,
in St. Boniface Roman Catholic
Church, Zurich, on the occasiot
of the 25th anniversary of the
Catholic Women's League. The
church was almost filled to cap-
acity with local League memb-
ers and members from the
Mount Carmel and St. Joseph
Leagues, and afew devoted men
from the parish.
A most impressive conceleb-
rated Mass was held with Rev.
Father Spencer, Diocesan Dir-
ector, as chief celebrant, assist-
ed by Father Durand, Father
Bensette, and Father Mooney.
Father Spencer gave a beautiful
and inspiring homily on the
Blessed Virgin Mary and the
charitable works of the Catholic
Women's League, The League's
motto being "for God and
Country."
After the Mass everyone went
over to the school auditorium
where all were presented with a
beautiful little booklet souvenir,
The president, Mrs. Van Raay,
opened the meeting with the
League prayer and the hymn
"Immaculate Mary" was sung
accompanied by Mrs. Patricia
Meidinger.
The president heartily welc-
omed all in attendance, The
master of ceremonies, Mrs.
Carmel Sweeney, called on all
past and present presidents who
were presented with a lovely
corsage by Mrs. Gorski, the
Diocesan president. The sec-
retary was called upon ro read
complimentary messages from
the Mount Carmel League and
the Emmanuel United Church

Mrs. Joan Smith read an int-
eresting article on the League
history. Father Durand, the
local director, gave a short
but very interesting talk.
The group were then entert-
ained and delighted by the Hur-
onia Choir who sang three
beautiful selections. A delis-'
ious buffet lunch was enjoyed
by all. Mrs. Claude Gelinas
gave a final thanks to all for
making the event so successful.

JACOB M. GINGERICH
A highly -respected resident
of Zurich for some years, Jacob
M. Gingerich passed away sudd-
enly at South Huron Hospital,
Exeter, on Sunday. May 11,
1975, in his 77th year. He was
born in Hay Township on Dec-
ember 5, 1888, a son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. David Ging-
erich,
For many years Mr. Gingerich
farmed on the Goshen Line in
Hay Township before retiring to
the village. He was the husband
of Elizabeth• -(McLellan) Lauver,
and the late Pearl Kipfer.
Surviving besides his wife are
four sons, Cyril K., of Selkirk;
Gerald, of Zurich, Victor, of
Woodstock; and Cleveland, of
R.R.3, Zurich; one daughter,
Mrs. Wally (Gloria) Dirks, of
Petersburg. There are also 16
grandchildren and six great
grandchildren.
The body rested at the West-
lake Funeral Home, Zurich,
until Tuesday,_ May 13, when the
funeral service took place in the
Zurich Mennonite Church at
2:30 p.m. Rev. C. Kuepfer off-
iciated.
