(T -A Photo) Principal named for Seaforth During Monday's regular meeting of the Huron County Board of Education, director, John Cochrane announced that Bruce Shaw has been named principal at Seaforth District High School. Shaw who has served as vice- principal at the Seaforth School for two years replaces the retir- ing L. Plumsteel. The princip- al's position has been held by Mr. Plumsteel for the past 27 years. As the result of a request by Wingham trustee Jack Alexand- er, a poll will be taken of parents of senior elementary students in the Wingham area and the first three grades at F.E. Madill secondary school regarding a music program. Director John Cochrane said a similar poll in 1972 showed only four students were interest- ed in music as a credit course at that time. When one member suggested the program could be started as extra curricular, Cochrane commented, "That's how it started in Goderich. First as extra curricular and then as a credit." Cochrane also cautioned, "as a credit course there are a lot of academics involved. Music is much more than just playing an instrument." Superintendent J. W . Coulter commented, "There may be a lot of interest, but what subj- ect does a student drop to make room for music." John R. Ball, a teacher at Seaforth High School was grant- ed permission to be nominated to the Department of National Defence School System Over- seas. It was agreed that a comp. arable position wouldbe avail- able to Mr. Bali in Huron after completion of a two-year term oyerseas. The board gave approval for the purchase of a large wrestl- ing mat for use at South Huron High School in Exeter. More than $3, 500 of the $5, 000 pur- chase price is being provided by the newly organized South Huron wrestling gymnastics and judo groups. Badminton The final championship games of badminton were play- ed last Tuesday night , with the Group "A" Champions being Doug and Betty O'Brien. The Group "Be' Champs were Barry Hess and Carolyn Bedour. The Group "A" Consolation winners were Marge Schilbe and Danny Turkheim,. and the Group "B" Consolation winners were Derek O'Brien and Cheryl Turkheim, This ends the Badminton season for the summer. Watch for the re -opening which will begin in November.
