on Ontario's rural population
sparked a furor in the Ontario
Legislature recently.

ment "to see the people who
have rifles and who have hand-
guns. It means that they are
going to have to tell us what
they want there for."
In a speech which drew furi.ou.
heckling from opposition MPP's
Drea snapped; "I know all of
the yahoos and rednecks from th(
faun country are going to say
"this sort of legislation "will
take away the .22 rifle from the
stockman who wants to kill rod-
ents or to shoot wolves."
"Careful now, " an honorable
member cautioned,
Huron Liberal Jack Riddell
retorted; "This will make good
reading for our good rural
friends."
"I suggest to you, sir,'" Drea
countered, "that the time has
come for gun control in this
province and if the yahoos don't
like it, let them stand up and
run against it."
Riddell threw the challenge
back/ "If the member wants
to come into my riding we'll
go and visit these people he is

Rabid animals affect the live-
stock. The farmers won't be able
to shoot thein under the legislat-
ion that the member is proposing

yahoo from Huron" and interrupt•
ed his comment: "This is the
longest speech he has ever made,
other than a grunt and a groan.

Kippen
The organizational meeting
for the newly formed Kippen,
Hensall and Brucefield 4-H
Calf Club was held Wednesday,
April 6, at the home of Beth
Cooper.
The election of officers was
held and they are as follows:
president, Les Coleman, vice-
president, David Brodie, secret-
ary, press reporter, Linda Bell.
Beth Cooper, the 4-H leader
for this club, along with Len
McGregor, the County 4-H
representative, explained to the
members what is involved in a
4-H Calf Club. Topics that will
be covered in this club, were
discussed.
The next meeting will be
held at Lyle Hill's home on
May 28 at 8:30 p.m.
SURPRISE PARTY
A surprise party, arranged by
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Cooper and
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cooper, was
held at Huron Centennial School
last Tuesday evening, honoring
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Cooper on
the occasion of their 25th wedd-
ing anniversary. About 100 were
in attendance and prize winner's
at the _euchre were Mr. Lloyd
McKenzie, Mrs. R.J. McGregor,
Mr. Pearson Charters and Mrs.
G. Sweeney.
