(T -A Photo) Local woman attends conference (by Mrs. Eileen Consitt) Mrs. Eileen Consitt attended the Officer's Conference of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario held last week at the University of Waterloo. Over 600 W.I. members from branches all over Ontario att- ended. The meeting was add- ressed by. Hon. W.A. Stewart, Minister of Agriculture for Ontario. Mrs. John McLean, Nova Smiles "Boy," said the 98 -pound worker, "I feel like punching that big foreman again." • "Again?" said his pal unbe- lievingly. "Yeah," said the little guy. "I felt like it yesterday, too." Scotia, President of Federated Women's Institute of Canada also spoke. She said women should think: first of her family, second, her community, and. third, herself. On thelast afternoon the speaker was Bob Carbert form- erly Farm Broadcaster on CKNX Wingham, and appointed in February, 1974 as General Manager of Ontario Agricultural Museum located near Milton, Ontario and sponsored by the Ontario government. This museum hopes to pres- erve and display tools and impl- ements used in Ontario in the early days of agriculture and is very interested in hearing from those who would contrib- ute to this museum. Old farm magazines are also wanted. He hopes this museum will be open to the public by Spring 1976. News of 'Varna There was a good attendance at the may meeting of the Var- na UCW. Mrs. Aldie Mustard opened the meeting with a poem "Little Things." Our Junior choir, under the leader- ship of Mrs. Doug McAsh, presented the worship service on the theme "Family Life." They sang three numbers. Highlight of the meeting was an interesting commentary of Mrs. W.T. McAsh on their holiday in Cuba. She accomp- anied her talk with pictures showing the people, buildings, farms, etc., and their beaut- iful clean beaches. ' The treasurer, Mrs. Robert Webster, repotted that the dessert euchre, held on April 23, was very successful. An invitation was received from the Clinton Hospital Auxiliary to attend Florence Nightingale Day on May 14 from 2 to 4 in the hospital. Mrs. Gordon Hill reported that the Committee for the 50th anniversary of the United Church, in co- operation 'with the elders, has a number of projects planned. The main feature of the celebrations will be an old-fashioned gospel serv- ice, to be held on the afternoon /oecza,4 dot PAGE of June 22. A potluck supper will follow the service. After the meeting, a large number of plants were sold by auction. Auctioneer was Mrs. Doug McAsh. Silver coffee spoons commemorating the 50th anniversary of union are now available from our memb- ers. Lunch was served by Mrs. Ralph Stephenson, Mrs. Tom Consitt, and Mrs. Charles Reid. Misses Anne Marie Heard and Bev Cantelon received County Honours when the district 4-1-1 Clubs held their Achievement Day at Zurich Public School on Saturday. Varna I club under the leadership of Mrs. Jim Keys and Mrs. William Dowson, Varna II whose leaders are Mrs. Keith Stephenson and Mrs. Will- iam Consitt took part. Certif- icates of Achievement were awarded to Brenda and Bonnie Dowson, Kay Hill, Laura Tamar Kathy Peck, Marjorie Keys, Judy Morrison, Sandra and Janice Webster, Mary -Ann Ver- hulst, Dianne Consitt and Tanis Chuter. Each girl received a silver spoon. All took part in the fashion show.
