are learning the English art of
playing soccer. Practice sessions
began last Wednesday evening
and also Saturday morning in
the Agricultural grounds. The
team is hopeful of being self
supporting and are appealing to
the village residence for assist-
ance. They are planning a bottle
drive for Saturday May 10
and would appreciate it very
much if the villagers would
assist them by donating pop
bottles and beer bottles, which
they will be glad to collect.
Jack Merrier has donated his
truck for collecting the bottles
and the money raised will go
towards buying uniforms, screens
registering in the league and
paying qualified referees. Some
of the boys have already been
busy gathering bottles in the
ditches and along the sideroads
and have raised enough money
to buy a soccer ball and a few
incidentals connected with the
game. Best of luck boys in this ,
new venture.

FATHER AND SON BANQUET
Scout Trooper John Siertsema
acted as Master of Ceremonies
for the Father and Son Scout
and Cub banquet in the St.
Andrew's United Church base-
ment on Thursday evening,
April 24. Following a very del-
icious turkey dinner, served by
the ladies of the church. Mr.
Siertsema introduced the head
table guests and called on Rev.
James Reddoch to address the
gathering. After a few remarks
to the fathers to support the
leaders in their venture, he rec-
ited a very amusing bit of prose,
entitled "Albert and the Lion, "
to which the audience was
extremely receptive.
The MC then called on -the
guest speaker, Mr. Eric Collins
of Clinton, who spoke on
conservation; and asked every-
one to consider what conservat-
ion really is. Many people
have different views of what
conservation really means and
he questioned how he could be
a hunter, fisherman, etc., and
still be a conservationist. He
said many people consider con-
servation as strictly preserving,
but there are many ways of pres-
erving he continued.
Rev. Reddoch then gave an
impersonation of a Quack doctor
on a street corner, selling a
remedy called Sellemsiliy for
all ills to those gathered around
him.
