He said he felt a board had to
make certain that exceptional
children get services to over-
come their disabilities.
A seminar at the convention
on the advantages and disad-
vantages of school boards acting
as their own general contractor
occasioned a lot of comment
from trustees. A case history
was presented by the Renfrew
board who had built an addition,.
with their own staff doing the
contracting.
Trustee Joe Looby said he felt
there was no advantage to the
idea at all. Business administ-
rator Jack Lane said probably
ICE PROBLEMS - Strong winds last week caused a serious
problem for the commercial fishermen working out of Grand
Bend. Earlier in the week a strong east wind had cleared all the
ice out into the lake, and the fishermen set their nets. The
next day the wind switched to the west and brought the ice
all back in, and at the same time trapped a number of boats
trying to get to their nets. This photo shows four boats trapped
and another trying to rescue them from the predicament. An
ice -cutter had to be brought into finally free the trapped boats.

Stratford trustee Ron Marcy
said he was disappointed to
learn that the Perth County
Board of education was setting
up their own metric committee
and ignoring a suggestion that
they get together with the
separate board, which had off-
ered to cooperate with the Perth
Board and to include their
representative on the commit-
tee that is already set up.
"These committees cost
money, and as separate school
supporters of the public system,
we should object to the duplic-
ation." Mr. Marcy said. Trust-
ee Howard Shantz agreed to
inform the separate school rep-
resentative on the Perth board
of Mr. Marcy's feelings.
None of the board's standing
committees made any report,
although Mickey Vere of the
building and property committee
said a tour of all the board's
schools with plant superintend-
ent Ed Rowland was being set
up for new members of the
board.
In a committee of the whole,
in camera, session after the reg-
ular board meeting, a decision
was made to have a special
board meeting on Wednesday,
April 24 to set the mill rate
for 1975, after the ministry
guidelines have been received.
Sister Mary St. Louis,. princ-
ipal of St. James, Seaforth,
