EASTER DINNER - The annual Easter dinner for residents of the Blue Water Rest Home and
their families was enjoyed by everyone attending. A tasty smorgasbord, attended to by the Ladies
Auxiliary, was a big reason for their enjoyment.
TICKETS ON EASTER CAKE - Mrs, Emily Schroeder and grand-
daughter Mrs. Sandra Hoy pitched in to help make the day a
success. Bunny Bundle was the recipient of the proceeds from the
sale of an Easter cake.

Plan for
achievement
The Horne Economics Branch
of the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food is again
holding 4-H Homemaking Club
Achievement Days in Huron
County.
The girls are participating in
the current 'project, "What
Shall I Wear?” The project has
helped the girls plan their
wardrobes with a clothing bud-
get in, mind. The club girl
has learned how to select
clothes to suit her figure type,
considering lines, colours and
textures of fabric. Each memb-
er has made a blouse which
will harmonize with her ward-
robe.
Miss Jane Pengilley, Home
Economist for Huron County,
will be conducting the following
Achievement Days in this area:
Crediton Area Achievement Day
at Stephen Township Central
Schoo, April 19. Exeter Achieve
meet Day, South Huron High
School, April 26. Zurich Area
Achievement Day, Zurich Publ-
ic School, May 3.
All friends and relatives are
invited to attend the afternoon
program which begins at 1:15
p.m. The girls will be present-
ing slits and exhibits on various
topics related to this club.
Your presence will show your
support for the young people in
the County.
COVER STRAWBERRIES
You can shorten the wait un-
til the first strawberries ripen
this year; by covering the plants
with a plastic tent in early
April, the fruit will be ready
10 to 14 days earlier than usual.
"The plastic provides a
greenhouse affect. so the plants
will bloom sooner, " explains
Ontario Ministry of Agriculture
and Food Horticulturist, D.M.
Sangster.
Construct a wooden or wire
frame over the strawberry row
and attach polyethylene to it.
Although two mil polyethylene
works well, four mil polyethyl-
ene is easier to work with and
lasts well, four nail polyethyl-
ene is easier to work with and
lasts longer. Anchor the plastic
along the sides of the frame-
work at ground level by laying
both its edges in furrows and
covering them with soil.
Once the strawberry plants
begin to flower, ventilate the
plastic tent during warm days
to aid pollination. "Ventilating
is easy, " says Mr. Sangster.
"Simply lift the plastic between
three and four inches along the
sides, turn it up, and secure it
to the outside of the frame."
If frost threatens during the
bloom period, cover the plastic
tent with blankets for the night.
Remove thele the next day.
About people
Mr. and Mrs. Herb Mouss-
eau, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Parkins,
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Erb and
Mr. and Mrs. Don O'Brien
attended the wedding of Kim
Black, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reg
Black in Tillsonburg last Satur-
day.
To accept all students
Catholic students who apply
to attend one of the Huron-Pertt
separate school board's 19
schools will be accepted and
provided with transportation,
even though they may live out-
side an area organized for the
direction of taxes to the system,
trustees decided last Monday
night.
The policy was adopted on
the recommendation of the
board's policy and by-law com-
mittee, chaired by trustee How-
ard Shantz, of Stratford. ,
Goderich trustee Virce Young
commented that the policy was
rather broad. "We would poss-
ibly have to travel 15 miles in
one direction to pick up one
student."
Business administrator Jack
Lane, agreed that this was
possible in some areas of the twr
counties but he suggested that
each case could be judged on
its own merits. I -Ie said a broch-
ure that the board has distribut-
ed to newcomers and real estate
offices, listing locations of
Catholic schools in the two
counties, has encouraged
Catholic supporters to check
with the board's office about
school accornrnodation before
buying property.
He suggested the board could
check out bus routes with the
public school board and would
not necessarily have to provide
special bus or taxi accoiuinod-
ation.
A second policy, on trustees
possessing keys to schools and
the board office was passed with
one amendment. An old policy
that board members may possess
keys to schools in their area was
reaffirmed.
Two new policies provide
that the chairmen of each stand-
ing committee can have a Rey
to the board room to facilitate
holding committee meetings
and that keys to schools may be
picked up at the board office
or from the principal by standin
„..committee chairmen were also
passed. A log book at the board
office will be provided for com-
mittee chairmen to sign keys
in and out.
After some discussion, a third
policy, on school photos was
passed. School principals will
be permitted to 'select one
photographic company to make
one visit a year to each school
to take the students' photos.
Trustee Francis Hicknell of
Dublin said he would like to
see class photos taken each year.
Kippen area trustee Michael
Connolly suggested "We should
tender and get a photographer
for all the schools in a business
like way.
Trustee Joe Looby of Dublin
suggested that a survey be done
for the end of the year. on how
many pictures and what type
were taken at all the board's
schools, so that perhaps a new
policy could be worked out for
next year. Trustees agreed to
consider the matter again for
next year.
The board's metric commit-
tee is holding meetings,

Driving to Mexico in a new
car? No trouble finding lead-
free gas, according to Pemex
officials. Look for a platinum
grey pump and the words
"Unleaded -92 Sin Promo".
A rubber company suggests
we change cars' belts and
hoses every two years instead
of 24,000 miles. Seems that
though people may be driving
less, rubber products
deteriorate with time.

Recent survey indicates that
drivers, especially young ones,
are turning' to cars with
manual transmissions -
because they're more fun to
drive. We're. old enough to
remember when they were
condicered a nuisance.
Warm weather and beach
season again - in shore areas,
protect bumpers, wheel covers
and trim from salt air with a
good chrome cleaner and a
coat or two of long-lasting
wax.
Dieseling? That's when the
engine keeps on running after
you turn off the ignition. •
How many miles do YOU drive a
year? If your car has reached the
high -mileage, high -expense age,
maybe it's time to trade in for a new
one at Larry Snider Motors.
