Letter to
editor
March 21, 1975
Dear Sir;
I see in your March 20th
edition an editorial reprinted
from the Listowel Banner
rapping the actions of the
Grand Bend Council in regard
to sewers. This irritates me to
no end as they are writing about
a subject with no background
knowledge.
According to the editorial
we do not listen: listening cost
$500, 000 from June 1974 to
February 1975. Our ratepayers
will pay $125, 000 with the
province paying the remainder
(bear in mind that the province
gets their money by taxation as
well).
At all stages of discussion
since 1973, the three townships
have been invited to join with
us but only Stephen township,
until this point, has consistently
met with us. However, none
of the townships are willing to
pay to join at this time.
The editorial says that we
refused the request for a treat-
ment plant: Incorrect, We said
that we would go along with a
treatment plant on the follow-
ing terms: (a) that the township
pay the additional one million
dollars (approx.) immediately
as Grand Bend couldn't afford
that, and (b) that the township
underwrite the additional 75
per cent cost of operations
relative to the treatment plant.
No Response. Who is at fault?
Technically, a treatment
plant will not function properly
under the conditions we have
here in Grand Bend. The rate-
payers of the village have sup-
ported our efforts in this regard. •
As a point of interest, only
one taxpayer is really causing
any uproar. The delegation who
spoke was composed of eight
people --two Grand Bend rate-
payers, two from Stephen Town-
ship, and four from Perth
county. Who do we serve,
Grand Bend or the township and
Perth county?
There is an old saying,
"Don't criticize until you have
walked a mile in the other
guys shoes. Listowel Banner
should perhaps walk in our shoes
for a while to test their superior
knowledge of our sewerage

SUMMARY: What's wrong
with Grand Bend: Too many
people saying this is wrong or
that is wrong without having a
Clue of what they are talking
about.
Thank you for the opportun-
