John was born in 1944 to Mr. and Mrs Harold Kellerman and through an error at birth became handi- capped. This has not kept John from getting a good education. He now lives in Toronto and while home with his mother on the weekend showed the $30, 000 Group discuss smokers rights An interested group of people met at the Huron Perth Lung Association office, 121 Well- ington St., Stratford, recently, to discuss the formation of a 'Non -Smokers Rights" Commit- tee to promote the rights of the non-smoker, whether suffering from heart disease, asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema or lung cancer or not . The Rehabilitation Committee Chairman of the Association, Miss Verna Dunsmore, 207 Easson St., was in charge of the discussion, assisted by Mrs. Beryl Davidson, Executive Director. John not only help- ed produce it but also stars in it. He hopes by May or June it will be available in the. National Film Board. This was shown in the United Church basement to members of all local churches. To date the United Church is the only church that has a special divis- ion to help such people. Pastor Bruce Guy predicts that some day Dashwood will be famous because of John. It shows the trouble John has getting around, walking, in buildings; restaurants, buses, taxis and airplanes. Some people are afraid of him, some think he is drunk, some say therE are homes for such people. On the other hand some people are very kind. He has often waited two hours for a taxi to stop. In discussion following the showing members of the aud- ience discussed with him ways to improve people's attitude and building construction. /nftbn7?ghti?ig 4IM..TY.4LOES Ground Beef ,B 69` MAPLE LEAF Tin -End Hams 81.65 Medium/Large EggSDOZ69` SCHNEIDER'S Ring Bologna X89` Roasting Capons X89` Custom slaughtering and processing available ! This year the Federal Government has included many new tax benefits that are important to you because they could save you money. Your federal income Tax Guide explains them thoroughly. Let's take the Interest Income Deduction as an example. This year for the first time, if you received and reported on your income tax form interest income from many legitimate Canadian sources, including bank deposits, bonds, mortgages and notes, you are allowed to claim as a deduction the total of the amounts up to $1,000. Your Tax Guide explains it in detail. Check Item 35. Increased Personal Exemptions is another item that has changed from last year. All it means is that the Federal Government has increased your personal exemptions to coincide with the rise in the Consumer Price Index. The new personal exemptions are printed on your income tax form. Guide Item 41 tells you more about it. Well, those are just some of the areas where it pays to follow your Tax Guide and, of course, there are others. The Federal Political Contribution Tax Credit is new as well. Guide Item 52H will tell you all about that one. This year, Family Allowance Payments are income and have to be declared as such. Check Item 7. Remember to check some of the other items listed in the Tax Guide which may entitle you to claim deductions, such as Child Care Expenses. Guide Item 33 tells you all about that one. And you may be entitled to deduct your Moving Expenses if you moved during 1974 to earn income in a new location in Canada. Check Item 34B carefully for the details. And don't forget, if you have contributed to a Registered Retirement Savings Plan, be sure to include your receipt and deduct the allowable amount.. Guide Item 29 explains it in detail. Use your Tax Guide and fill in your , tax form carefully, step by step. You'll find it's not as difficult as you think.
