To protect areas without plan Huron County planning dep- artment was authorized Tues- day to prepare a generalized zoning bylaw to protect mun- icipalities without official plans until they can be compl- eted. Huron County Council was told by planning director Gary Davidson such a bylaw would put into law policies laid down in the county -wide official plats to prevent undesirable land uses. His department will prepare the bylaw and individual mun- icipalities will be free to adopt it as a temporary holding meas - Zurich Bantams win and lose Zurich defeated Drayton in the fust round of the W .0. He said county council has frequently debated the value of agricultural holding bylaws to protect farmland from non- farm development. The gen- eralized zoning bylaw would be more flexible and still prov- ide protection, "It will give municipalities that want it a form of inter- mediate protection until their plans can be developed, " he said. Planning board. chairman Jack McCutcheon, reeve of Brussels, said it likely will be several years before the plann- ing department will have comp- leted detailed official plans for all the county's 26 municipal- ities. Warden Anson McKinley said the proposed general zoning bylaw system would strengthen the county official plan which was adopted in 1969 and which lays down policies for the prot- ection of farmland against non- farm development, "It should strengthen the protection we thought we've had all along, " the warden said. He predicted demand for the bylaw would be heavy. County council's restructuring committee reported it has held its first meeting and is circulat- ing a questionnaire to obtain information about local govern- ment from municipal clerks. Warden McKinley said "I think our committee is making good progress, " adding he hopes the questionnaires will Beiteigistakeros WHITE SWAN 2's Bathroom Tissue 39C MAPLE LEAF 1 1/2 LB Canned Ham $2.45 MAXWELL HOUSE 11 OZ Instant Coffee $2®29 20 LB BAG Robin Hood Flour$2®19 BLUE 5 LB Surf Detergent $1.75 SUNLIGHT 2's Liquid Detergent $1.29 DOVE Beauty Bar 3/$1 CLOSE-UP 100 ML Tooth Paste 990 2 LB PKG Dainty Rice 850 PIECES & STEMS 10 OZ Lever's Mushrooms 494 FLEECY 128 OZ Fabric Softener $1.75 VAN CAMP'S 19 OZ Beans with Pork 451 DEL MONTE 4's Pudding Cups 69 SQUIRREL 2 LB Peanut Butter $1.49 GAINES 72 OZ Burgers Beef $2.69 25 LB BAG Gaines Meal $6.19 MITCHELL'S FANCY 14 OZ Applesauce 3/$1 CHEF BOY -AR -DEE 15 1/2 OZ Pizza Mix 694 LIBBY'S 14 OZ Fancy Sauerkraut 4/$1 CHOCOLATE CHIP 16 OZ Dad's Cookies 89 AYLMER CHOICE 14 OZ Bartlett Pears 45C AYLMER F.S. 14 OZ Choice Peaches. 49C AYLMER CHOICE 14 OZ Fruit Cocktail 491 11 OZ BOTTLE Aylmer Catsup 35C SUNKIST NAVEL #138's ORANGES 69 DOZ FLORIDA WHITE ##48's GRAPEFRUIT 8/88 CANADA #1 WAXED TURNIPS 9 LB Doerr Superior Market 236-4354 Zurich be returned to the committee by April 15. He also said the committee will visit Oxford County April 8 to study their restructured government. Goderich Township Reeve Gerry Ginn urged the commit- tee to study improvements closer to home. Reeve Ginn said he felt one of the first issues to be tackled by the committee is the size of.county council itself. He said 45 members is per- haps inefficient and member- ship on the council should be looked at closely. Warden McKinley said the committee will study the issue but that any proposal to cut down the number of memb- ers on council "is certainly going to have to be well docu- mented."
