Mr. Frank Uttley, of Zurich, who left for London just a few days ago, was attacked in that city by two negroes and robbed of about $21. He Was badly beaten and cut about the face, however, the offenders were caught and sentenced for their offence. 35 Years Ago Rev. J.R. Peters, United Church minister at Varna, was injured on Monday while he was travelling on Highway 4 trying to get to Zurich to conduct a funeral service, Alphonse Masse and Norman Sararas, of the Bluewater Highway south, motored to Kincardine on Friday, but due to the severe snowstorm on Saturday they had to spend the evening in Bayfield. Due to the severe snowstorm of the weekend, the royal mail had to be carried to Hensall by way of Grand Bend, Dash- wood, and Exeter. The road from Zurich to Hensall rem- ained closed for several days. OF - YEARS GONE -BY- 25 Years Ago About 700 fans were on hand to watch the exhibition hockey game between the Forwell Bro- thers' team of St. Clemens and the combination of stars of the Dashwood and Zurich teams. An objective of $15, 000 has been set for Hay Township residents to subscribe to the building fund for the new hosp- ital located at Exeter. Last Saturday the mail train from London went up in flames near Ilderton, and all the mail for the northern parts went up 'in flames. Many important items were lost in the fire. Funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon for Roland Geiger, prominent Hay Town- ship farmer, who passed away suddenly Saturday morning. For a number of years he was a member of the Hay Township council. 10 Years Ago Architect Ted Haggarty, of London, last Thursday night presented to the board plans for the addition to the Hensall School of the Hay Township School Area. Christine Haberer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Haberer, R. R.1, Zurich, was the lucky winner of five dollars a week for one year in the Kellogg Company. The Zurich Flyers, intermed- iate version, last Wednesday won the South Huron Recreat- ion League hockey champion- ship, when they edged Seaforth Shoes in the final game of the playoffs, 5-4 in sudden death overtime. Several quilts were quilted and completed the following day. During the business a letter was read from South Huron Association for Mentally Ret- arded, and a donation of $50 was made towards this group. Reports were given by the sev- eral committees. Mrs. E. Truemner said Christ- mas cards and stamps are still accepted. Miss Olive O'Brien volunteered to replace Mrs. L. Jacobe as supervisor of the Cradle Roll. Mrs. H. Neeb and Mrs. W. Neeb were appointed by the UCW to the "Hundred Plus" committee. An invitation from Kippen UCW to attend their Easter Thankoffering on April 8 was accepted. The president, Mrs. L. O`Brien, expressed the thanks of UCW to the visitors who came to assist with the quilting.
