Zurich Citizens News, 1975-03-06, Page 10THURSDAY, MARCY-I 6, 1976 ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS PAGE 11 OFA asks for insurance In a brief to the Ontario Cabinet, the Ontario Federat- ion of Agriculture (OFA) told the ministers that it had a choice of bringing in an Act to permit OFA to insure the return on production cost for their members or face the prospect of farms closing down and imp- ort all food from outside, with- in ten years. Gordon Hill, OFA president, said that his organization, with 25, 000 members, nearly all marketing organizations and co-operatives, represents the vast majority of Ontario's farm- ers and will administer the ins- urance plans with the market- ing organizations. The prem- ium, the brief said , would be shared, with farmers paying one third and the government two thirds. Agriculture Minist- er Stewart and Premier Davis agreed that farmers can't be expected to produce below cost and stay in business. "Even a farmer who owns his land can no longer go through a bad year just by tightening, hisbelt, " Mr. Hill said, "Specialized farming in one or two commodities is so common today, that if that commodity doesn't yield the price expected at the time the crop is sown, the farmer has no others to fall back on." 0 Varna News The United Church Women's meeting has been cancelled until Thursday, March 13. Al- though we expect spring to be just around the corner at this time of the year, all the winter that we thought we had missed seems to be having it's fling now. On Monday evening the resi- dents enjoyed films, followed by refreshments. We had very little activity during the week because of the poor weather conditions which persisted al- most every day. Most residents were hoping for another outing in the bus during the week, but of course, weather did not permit. We are pleased to report that Mrs. Jenny Hotson has ret- urned from South Huron Hospital Some people have inquired as to whether or not we have had to curtail visiting because of a flu epidemic in some areas, We are pleased to report that visitors are welcome as always. The residents are busy in the craft room these days mak- ing stuffed Easter bunnies and other toys that catch the eyes of the children. If you wish to dispose of any remnants of fun fur, plush or crimp, it would About people you know Mr. and Mrs. James Blom- field, of Arthur, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. William Baechler. There was lots of variety of patterns and material. The members chose their material to suit them- selves. On March 14 we will be going to the Ice Capades at 6:15. Everyone is looking forward to this occasion. Our subject matter was "Suit the Occasion." We discussed the four, points to consider when selecting clothes for diff- erent occasions which are: nurnber one, you should spend the most money on the clothes we wear the most; clothes for school should be casual and tailored in style; make one outfit serve several occasions; before buying, consider how often you can wear and where you plan to wear it, so you can get the most use out of it. We also discussed wardrobe harmony With our material we were to check it, by inaking sure it is on the "straight of grain, " and straight of thread. Next week we are to have our patt- erns pinned Right now mortgages cost less That home or cottage 'you hope to own some day can be yours right now!
