Midgets win opener

On Monday night the Zurich
Midgets travelled to Blyth for
the first game of the W.O.A.A.
quarter finals, at feating Blyth
6-4.
Zurich opened the scoring at
the 10:10 mark of the first period
with Wayne Clarke scoring
assisted by Randy McKinnon. ,
At the .14 second mark of
the second period Wayne Schilbe
scored assisted by Fred Mommer
steeg and Marty Becker. Blyth
carne back at the 2.40 mark
with a goal by Brian Bromley.
Zurich made it 3-1 at the 3:30
mark with -an unassisted effort
by Wayne Clarke.
Blyth went ahead with three
goals by Steve Bromley, Ron
Plunkett and Terry Pearce.
At the 13:40 mark Marty Becker
got the first of two quick goals
with assists going to Fred Morn-
mersteeg and Wayne Schilbe.
Thirty seconds later the same
line-up scored again.
Zurich came out in the third
period and scored at the 5:30
mark on a goal by Randy Mc-
Kinnon, assisted by Dan Laporte,
to make the final score 6-4.
Randy Oke played a great
game in the net for Zurich.
There was only eleven penalt-
ies with Zurich getting a mis-
conduct and six minor penalt-
ies, and Blyth four.
Next game is Friday night
at 7 p.m. at the Zurich arena.
Bantams defeat Blyth
On Tuesday night, February
4, the Blyth Bantams journeyed
to Zurich for the first game of
the W.O,A,A. quarter finals.
The Zurich lads came up with
a decisive 7-1 win.
In the first period goals were
scored by JimOesch, assisted
by Barry Overholt. A few min -

The annual meeting of the
Huron County Poultry Pigeon
and Pet Stock Association was
held in the OMAF board room
in Clinton on Tuesday evening,
January 28. The following
slate of officers were voted in
for 1975: president, Clifford
Pepper, vice-president, Ronald ,
Richey; secretary -treasurer,
Harvey Daniel; assistant secret-
ary, Bert Mills; directors (3)
Earl Becker, Donald Dearing,
Douglas Vincent; auditors,
George Tiernan, Bert Mills;.
reporter, Victor Daniel.
The treasurer reported a nice
balance for 1974 and following
his report an interesting prog-
ram was mapped out for 1975.
A dutch auction for a pair of
white Wyandottes was held and
the winner was Wally Saville.
The Wyandottes were donated
by. Clifford Pepper. Coffee
and donuts rounded out a very
enjoyable evening.

pass from Jim Oesch and Wayne
Thiel.
In the second period Zurich
came on strong scoring four
goals. Jim Oesch scored his
second goal on a pass from Lind-
say Laporte. Steven Grainger
scored a few minutes later
on a pass from Grant Love and
Bob Mommersteeg. Tom Keen-
an scored the third goal of the
period with the assist going to
Wayne Haunather. Blyth finally
got on the score sheet with a
goal by Steve Howson assisted
by Dale Whitfield. The final
goal of the period was scored
by Ken Oesch assisted by Steve
Grainger.

Each team drew five penalt-
ies in the game. The next
game in the best of three will
be in Blyth on Friday night at
8:30 p.rn.

On Wednesday, January 29
the Zurich Atoms played Bay-
field in Zurich and beat them
8-2. It was a lucky night for
Mark Kirk when he scored four
goals. David Erb picked up two
while Gord Love and Brian
Horner each score one apiece.
ZURICH 3 - CLINTON 2

On Saturday the Zurich
Atoms travelled to Clinton for
an afternoon game. The Zur-
ich team defeated Clinton 3-2.
Early in the first period
Clinton went ahead 1-0 on a
goal frombehind the net. Ian
Peck of Clinton passed the
puck which hit Kevin Oke and
bounced in the net. Both teams
skated fast and checked well
for the second period but neith-
er team could put the puck
behind the goalies.
David Erb tied the score for
Zurich early in the third period
on a shot from the blue line.
Three minutes later Zurich
went ahead 2-1. on a goal by
Brian Horner. Clinton tied the
score 2-2 on a goal by Brad
Hymers.
With three minutes left in
the third period David Smith
scored a well-deserved goal for
Zurich. Clinton lifted their
goalie in the last minute but
the Zurich team kept the play
in the centre ice area. Every-
one on the Zurich team played
a strong game to defeat the
well balanced Clinton squad.

win twice
MITCHELL 3 - ZURICH 1
On Wednesday January 26,
Zurich was defeated by the
strong Mitchell crew. The score
was opened by Mitchell in the
first period by Jay Heinbuck.
Zurich rallied in the second
period to tie the score when
Kerry Bedard netted a goal
assisted by Greg Kirk. Heinbuck
added his next goal assisted by
Greg Kirk. Heinbuck added his
next goal in the second period,
and then came back with his
third goal in the last period to
gain their victory.
ZURICH 3 - HENSALL 1
On Saturday, February 1,
Zurich was robbed time and
time again by goal -tending,
but finally managed to get on
the score sheet in the third per-
iod. Robert Willert tipped in
a shot from Kerry Bedard to
start the scoring, but Hensall
tied the game on a goal by Par-
ker. With less than a minute to
play, Kris Bedard scored on a
break -away. Then, with an
open net in favour of an extra
attacker for Hensall, Kerry
Bedard broke out and scored on
a pass from Greg Kirk.
This ends the 18 game South
Zone schedule for the Peewees
with 16 wins and two losses to
gain second place, only one
point behind Mitchell.
Flyers down
Jura crew
The Zurich Flyers came up
with an easy 8-2 victory over
Jura in South Huron Hockey
League action last Sunday after-
noon. They scored five times in
the first period, when Richard
Schilbe blinked the red light
twice and Kevin McKinnon,
Ron Rader and Rod Chapman
once each. Bob Henderson
scored the lone goal for the
visitors.
Ron Rader with his second
goal of the game, and Pat Bed-
ard with his first, increased the
local's lead to '7-1 in. the second
stanza.
The two teams traded third
period goals when McKinnon
came through with his second
of the game for the Flyers,
and -Jim Laird found the range
for the Jura crew.
Six minor penalties were
called against Zurich, while
the visitors picked up four min-
ors, one misconduct and one
match penalty.
Next home game for the local
will be on Monday night, Feb-
ruary 10, when they play host
to the Centralia College team.
The playoffs are scheduled to
begin in the next week or 10
days.
