Hensall United
The Annual congregational
meeting of the Hensall United
Church was held January 29„
preceded by a delicious pot
luck supper. Following the
supper, Shirley McAllister con-
ducted a very entertaining
glimpse at activities of the
• church 50 years ago. She was
assisted by Dorothy Mickle,
Pat Cook, Elva Forrest, Rena
Caldwell and Grace Drummond,
Dorothy Mickle led a choir
of older members of the church,
Elgin Rowcliffe, Harry Horton,
Harry Hoy, Pearl Erratt, Mrs..
Robert McAllister, Grace Peck,
Greta Laramie and Nan Britton.
They sang older hymns of the
church accompanied on the
piano by Myrtle Sherritt.
Pat Cook read interesting
portions from a 50 -year old
book of the trustee board, and
Elva Forrest talked about Sun-
day School picnics 50 years
ago.
Rev. Don Beck opened the
annual meeting with scripture
meditation and prayer. It was
moved that Elva Forrest act as
secretary for the meeting. A
moment of silence was held
for those who had passed away
Church annual
during the past year.
The annual report was rev-
iewed with Cecil Pepper expl-
aining the treasurer's report,
Doreen Spencer the UCW
report and Doug Cook reporting
for the trustees. The budget
was discussed and accepted.
Ian McAllister thanked those
who were retiring from the
board, and expressed hope that
they would continue to serve
the church in the future.
Vacancies on the following
committees were filled for a
three -year -term. They are
worship and membership com-
mittee, Edison Forrest (chair-
man) Mrs. Shirley McAllister,
Mrs. Grace Drummond, Mrs.
Sadie Hoy, Doug Mock; stew-
ardship committee, David

People filling annually app-
ointed positions in the congreg-

Doug Cook; head usher, Ross
Veal; auditors, Earle Shapter,
Doug Mann.
Ian McAllister expressed the
thanks of the congregation to
Rev. Don and Mrs. Beck for
their faithful service and pres-
ented them with a gift, to whicl
they made fitting replies.
Rev. Don Beck also thanked
all the workers in the church
for their co-operation during
the past year. Mike Beck show-
ed slides of happenings in the
church during the past year,
and Rev Beck closed the meet-
, ing with the benediction.

Obituary
MRS. McMURTRIE
Mrs. Hugh (Polly) McMurtrie,
the former Mary Cochrane, of
Hensall passed away at South
Huron Hospital, in Exeter,
on Wednesday, January 29,
1975 in her 86th year.
Surviving are one son Alex,
of R.R.3, Kippen; two brothers,
Jaynes Cochrane, Toronto,
William Cochrane, Illinois;
three sisters, Mrs. Charles
(Edna) Robinson, Napanee,
Mrs. Ross (Ida) Dick, Nova
Scotia, Mrs. Agnes Northey,
Cameron, Ontario; also one
granddaughter, Mrs. Carol
Hillier, Thamesford, and three
great grandsons, John, Steven
and Janes Hillier.
The late Mrs. McMurtrie
rested at the Bonthron Funeral
Hoare in Hensall where funeral
service was held on February 1,
with Rev. Don Beck officiating.
Interment was in Baird's Cem-
etery.
Pallbearers were Allen
Johnston, Stan Love, Mel
Glanville, Wilmer Ferguson,
Bill Elliot and Ian McAllister.

have returned from a two week
trip to Florida.
Council

as they are interested in build-
ing a new office block .
Plans were made for the
reeve and council to attend the
association of Rural Municipal-
ities convention, February 9
to 11, in Toronto. Councillor
Len Erb said if the rest are going
he will stay home and tend the
store.
Council learned of a new rul-
ing by the county regarding
trailer homes. It is a mobile
home whether the gear is on or
off, so Mr. Mattson will be
unable to put a trailer on the
lot in question.
Council also learned that
the interest rate on short term
deposits has dropped.
Accounts of approximately
$3900 were ordered paid.

Reid has been hospitalized for
surgery.
Al Hoggarth is undergoing
treatment for a back injury.
