Zurich Flyers tie two games
The Zurich Flyers came up
with two tie games during the
past week's activity in South
Huron Hockey League action.
On Sunday afternoon before the
largest crowd of the season they
battled to a 6-6 tie with the
Shipka Bears, after holding a
6-3 edge halfway through the
third period. On Monday night
in Exeter they came through
with an 8-8 score against the
powerful Mohawks.
On Sunday the two teams were
tied 3-3 at the end of the first
period, as Glen Overholt, Rod
Chapman and Ron Rader each
scored once for the locals.
The saine three Zurich play-
ers each scored one inthe sec-
ond to give the Flyers a 6-3
lead by the end of the period.
With only ten minutes left
in the game, and still leading
6-3, the Zurich crew fell apart
at the seams when they picked
up two major penalties for high
sticking. At the 14 minute mark
Shipka made it 6-4, and then
a minute later they carne
through with their fifth goal.
There was only one imine left
in the game when the visitors
tied the game at 6-6.
With only 14 seconds left in
the game the Flyers almost
scored what would have been -
the winning goal, but their
efforts fell short.
A total of 12 minor penalties
were called against Shipka,
while Zurich was assessed six
minors and two majors, the
two five-minute calls both
coming at the same time in the
last half of the third period.
On Monday night in Exeter
the Flyers trailed 2-1 at the
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER - Kerry Bedard, a member of the
Peewees Hockey Club, was awarded the Roy Cook Memorial
Trophy for the most valuable player in the Silver Stick Hockey
Tournament just completed at Watford. Kerry was in competit-
ion with hundreds of players in classes ranging from "AA", "A",
"B-1"; "B-2 to "B-3". In the games Kerry played he scored a
total of 12 goals.

called against the Flyers, while
Exeter were handed five minors
Zurich Peewees
ZURICH 19 - GRAND BEND 2
On Wednesday, January 22,
Zurich swamped Grand Bend
with a 19-2 score. Leading the
scoring was Msrk Regier with
five goals and two assists, Kerry
Bedard with four goals and three
assists, Kris Bedard with five
goals, and Robert Willert
with three goals and one assist.
Single goals were scored by Pat
Cyr and Len Van Wonderen.
Francis Kelders got both goals
for Grand Bend.
ZURICH 2 - SOUTH LONDON 1
On Thursday, January 23,
Zurich travelled to London
Hockeyland to defeat South
London 2-1. There was no scor-
ing in the first, but esrly in the
second period, Robert Willert
put Zurich on the scoreboard
with an assist from Jeff Mc-
Kinnon. A few minutes later
Robert Willert scored again
when he poked the puck ben-
eath the goalies pads. Jim
Willert and Jeff McKinnon
aided on the effort. South Load -
on scored a single goal but
Zurich maintained the win.
ZURICH 20 - BAYFIELD 1
Zurich scored five goals in
the first period, six in the sec-
ond and added nine more in the
last period, while Bayfield got
a lone goal from John Dowson
in the last period. Mark Regier
notched four goals, while Kerry
Bedard, Gerard, Masse, and Len
Van Wonderen each scored
three goals. Two goals apiece
were scored by Bob Hay, Jeff
McKinnon, and Greg Kirk,
while Kris Bedard added a single
to gain the lop -sided win.
ZURICH 6 - EXETER "B" 1
While participating in Exeter's
Minor Hockey Day, Zurich
came up with another win. In
the first period, Kerry Bedard
started the scoring on a lone
effort. Then Bob Hay scored
win four
the second goal on a play from
Kerry Bedard and Greg Kirk.
The second period gave Zurich
three more goals; Len Van-
Wonderen from Mike Haggitt,
Kerry Bedard unassisted and
Kris Bedard from Kerry Bedard.
Kris Bedard notched two
goals in the third period, one
unassisted and the other from
Kerry Bedard. Exeter managed
to get on the score sheet near
the end of the game with a
goal by Stephens.

Zurich Atoms
win twice

On Wednesday, January 22
the Zurich Atoms triumphed
over Grand Bend 3-1. Mark Kirkl
David Erb and Paul Johnston
each moved the mesh once for
the home team.
Friday, January 24, was a
lucky day for the Zurich Atorns
as they bombed Bayfield 13-3.
David Erb and Dean Armstrong
each slapped three goals behind
the Bayfield netminder. David
Smith and Paul Johnston tucked
two apiece in behind the goalie.
Brian Horner, Mark Kirk and
Gord Love scored once. Fans
will have their next chance to
see the Atoms in action on
Wednesday January 29 when
Bayfield returns to Zurich for
a game at 6:30 p.m.
