Steer This Way BY LARRY SNIDER Locals at festival This year's Junior Fanner Tal- ent Festival promises to provide a full day's entertainment for the near 2, 000 people expected to attend. Over 200 entries, a record number, have been made for this program to be held February 1 at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. Huron County will be repres- ented in the public speaking, singing, square dancing and general talent competitions. Mary Anne Miltenburg, R. R.7, Lucknow, will be taking part in the public speaking compet- ition. The Huron County choir, under the direction of Larry Murray, R,R.4, Walton, will be participating in the choir festival. The vocal solo competition is popular again this year. Don- na Henderson, R.R.5, Seaforth, and Larry Murray, R.R.4, Walt- on, will be singing in this event. "Talent Hunt, " one of the most popular and amusing parts of the day, will include an entry from this county as well. Tom Melady and Don Melady from Dublin will be entered in the musical presentation. Square dancers front Cent- ralia College of Agricultural Technology will represent this county in the square dancing competition. The dancers are - Lynn Douglas, John Thomas, Patty Wilcox, Robin Hood, Gord Gibb, Cheryl Cable, Matt Jacobs, Marie Brown, Jack Wharram and Charlie Bowman is the caller for the set. In addition, the festival will feature art, crafts, photography and writing displays with cont- ributions from Junior Farmers across Ontario. Rhonda Fergu- son, Dublin, will be participat- ing in the writing displays. The "Show of Stars" in the evening will be the climax of the day's program. Winners of most events will perform to a capacity audience in the Canadian Room. One of the highlights will be a presentat- ion by the massed Junior Farm- er choirs under the direction of Mrs. Marie Deveareux of Port Perry. Also during this program, winners of several of this year's Junior Farmer travel programs will be announced including the Australia and New Zealand visit and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food Schol- arships to the United Kingdon. Jim Phelan, .R.R.2, Blyth, has been nominated by Huron County for the United Kingdom Trip. Varna Mr. Mervyn Hayter has returned home from the hospit- al. ospit-a1. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reid have returned home from Flor- ida. Varna United Church will hold their annual meeting on Wednesday, February 5.
