The first meeting of the
New Year of Kippen United
Church Women was held on
January 14 with 13 members
present. The meeting began
with a Pot luck supper.
Mrs. David Turner opened
the meeting with a poem
"Goodbye Christmas Tree."
Mrs. John Cooper tool< the
Worship which tied in with the
topic, which was taken by
Mrs. Bert Faber from "How to
Cope with Criticism" by Nor-
man Vincent Peel.
The Sunshine Report was
given by Mrs. N. Dickert, the
Rose report by Mrs. Laird Finlay.
son and the treasurer's report
by Mrs. Bert Faber.
The roll call was answered
by a New Year's Resolution.
Mrs. David Turner will be the
Key Woman for the World Day
of Prayer to be held March 7.
AL CHERNY
The Fiddler par excellence on CBC -TV's The Tommy Hunter
Show is Al Cherny, and he's been with the show the 10 years
it's been on air. The Alberta -born Cherny of Ukrainian descent
is a master playing country and ethnic music on his violin and the
winner of top prizes at many fiddling contests. The Tommy
Hunter Show is seen Friday nights at 9 p.m. on the CBC -TV.

The members of Kippen
East Women's Institute entert-
ained their friends to a pot luck
dinner in the Legion Hall,
Hensall, January 15. After a
delicious dinner the president,
Mrs. R. Kinsman read several
poems and welcomed the guests
and members. The members
answered the roll call by nam-
ing the flowers carried or worn
at their wedding and introducinE
their guests.
A donation was ina.de to the
Save the Sight, Fund, Family
night will be held in April
instead of January 31; Kippen
East will sponsor four 4-H
Clubs in the next project. "Wha
Shall I wear?"
Mrs. G. Drummond, Public
Relations Officer, presented
gifts to Mrs. D. Brodie, Mrs.
Bean, Mrs. A. Hoggarth, Mrs,
H. Parsons, Mrs. J. Chalmers
and Mrs. M. Connolly, leaders
of the past clubs. Mrs. Charles
Eyre commented on the motto, "
"The greatest use of life is to
spend it for something that
will outlast it." Readings were
given by Rose Hummel, Verda
Sinclair, Phyllis Parsons, Grace
Pepper, Charlotte Pullman,
Ruby Triebner,
Francis Kinsman played a
piano instrumental, Mona Ald-
erdice conducted contests.
Margaret Hoggarth and Grace
Drummond presented a humor -

Glen Bell, Mr. and Mrs. John
Anderson and Mr. and Mrs.
Emerson Anderson.
Mrs. Grace Siemon, Kitch-
ener has been visiting with
Mr. and Mrs. R.J. McGregor.
The sympathy of the com-
munity goes out to Mrs. Keith
Pressey and her family in the
loss of a husband and father.
Mr. and Mrs. Grant McGreg-
or and Mr. and Mrs. Grant
McLean enjoyed a snowmobil-
ing holiday near Durham last
weekend.
