In the 16 games played this season, in both regular and exhibition play they have a record of 13 wins, one tie and two losses. ZURICH 9 - BAYFIELD 2 On Wednesday, December 18 Zurich skated to a 9-2 win over Bayfield. In the first per- iod, there was no scoring, but in the second period, Zurich scored five goals, and Bayfield 2. Robert Willert blinked the red light twice, while Len Van Wonderen, Kerry Bedard and Mike Haggitt each scored one before Bayfield got two goals, b: John Dowson and Ken Merner. In the third period, Zurich added four more goals. Robert Willert scored his third goal, while Greg Kirk, Mark Regier, and Kris Bedsrd each tallied one. ZURICH 3 - CLINTON 2 On Thursday, December 19, Zurich battled too a 3-•2 ciecisi0n over Clinton at the Clinton Arena. Zurich managed a goal by Kerry Bedard, unassisted in the last second of play in the first period to put Zurich out front. Near the end of the second period Greg Kirk on a solo effort put Zurich out front 2-0. Then Clinton got on the score board with a goal by Colough•. In the third period Greg Kirk, unassisted slipped his second goal by to give Zurich a two goal lead. Then in the last period of play, with Clinton's goalie out in favour of an extra. forward, Clinton banged in a goal to end the game, ZURICH 6 - GRAND BEND 0 On Monday, December 30 Zurich skated to a 6-0 decision over Grand Bend. In the first period Kerry Bedard scored two goals, both assisted by Mark Regier. Then in the second per- iod, Kerry Bedard got his third goal from Gerard Masse. In the third period, Robert Willert scored from Kerry Bedard then five seconds later, notched his second goal, unassisted. The final goal cane from the stick of Mark Regier assisted by Mike Haggitt. SILVER STICK TOURNAMENT On Sunday morning Zurich Bantams lose two games On December 30, the Zurich Bantams carne up with a strong game but fell short by a score of 5-3. In the first period Mitchell opened the score at 4:04 on a goal by D. Johnston. Then Zurich scored twice to take the lead on two goals by Jim Oesch both unassisted. In the second period Mitchell tied the scorer at 6:03 on a goal by B. Fisher. Zurich re- gained the lead at 11:03 on a break away goal by Steve Grainger with the assist going to Grant Love. In the third period Mitchell scored three power play goals to go ahead 5-3. Zurich took a five minute major penalty and three minor penalties in a span of less than two minutes. It was just too much as Zurich played two men short and then one man short for inost of the period. Despite the loss it was one of the best efforts put out by the Zurich Bantams. On January 3 at 1-Iensall penalties again proved costly as Zurich Bantains lost a close one by a score of 3-2.. In the first period Zurich opened the score at1:32 on a goal by Grant Love. Then at 5:35 IIensall tied the score on a goal by K. Varley. In the second period the only goal was scored again by K. Varley giving Hensall a two period lead of 2-1. In the third period Zurich tied the score at 5:50 on a goal by Barry Overholt. Then as in Mitchell, Zurich fell into a rash of penalties, and at 10:05 D. Taylor scored the go-ahead goal for 1-Iensall and that was the way the score ended, Hen- sall 3 - Zurich 2. The score was Zurich 12 and Forest Minors 2. In the first period Kris Bedard opened the scoring, assisted by Len Van Wonderen and Pat Cyr, then Jeff McKinnon banged in a pass from Jim Willert and Len Van Wonderen. The second period started out with a goal by Forest, but then Zurich banged in four more un- answered goals being, Robert Willert from Kerry Bedard and Mike IIaggitt; Jeff McKinnon fron Greg Kirk, Len Van Wonderen from Jeff McKinnon and Pat Cyr; and Kerry Bedard from Mark Regier and Robert Willert. In the third period, Kerry Bedard sparked Zurich's attack with four more goals; the first from Robert Willert and Mark Regier, then Jim Willert notch- ed one from Kris Bedard and Jeff McKinnon. Kerry then scored two more, both from Robert Willert, and Mike Hag- gitt aiding on the second one. Kris Bedard, aided by Len Van Wonderen and Jeff McKinnon whacked in another before Forest slipped down the ice and scored their second goal. Kerry Bedard got his fifth and final goal when a penalty shot was awarded to Zurich because a Forest player covered the puck in the crease. • The next action in the Silver Stick Tournament will be Sun- day January 12 at 11:40 a.m. in the Watford Arena when Zurich meets the Sarnia Reserve 0 Bantams win one, tie one On Tuesday December 17, the Zurich Bantams defeated Hensall by a score of 3-1. In the first period the only goal scored was by Jim Oesch with Wayne Thiel and Bob Mornmersteeg assisting. The period saw extremely sharp goal tending by Kevin Wildfong. In the second period Hensall tied the score on a goal by Terry Caldwell, In the third period the locals scored twice to wrap up the vic- tory. Jim Oesch with his second goal of the game at the 8:30 mark. While playing shorthand- ed Grant Love scored on a hard slap shot from just inside the Blue line at 14:42 to secure the victory. CLINTON 5 -ZURICH 5 On Saturday night Zurich Bantams overcame a 4-1 deficit to tie Clinton 5-5 in Clinton. In the first period Clinton took a 2-0 lead on goals by Larry Dalton and Bill Brodigan. In the second period Steve Grainger put Zurich on the score board at 4;20 with Tim Smith assisting. Clinton came back with two more goals to take a 4-1 lead. Before the per- iod ended Zurich narrowed the score to 4-3, with Torn Cyr. • Steve Grainger scoring the goals. In the third period Zurich scored two quick goals to take a 5-4 lead. Tim Smith tied the game. Grant Love scored 'the go-ahead goal at 3:56. Then late in the period while playing shorthanded, Clinton tied the game at 12:58 by Mark Bell. In the closing seconds of the game both teams had excellent scoring chances, but failed to produce any goals. The Zurich team continues to get great goal tending as Roger O'Brien carne up with another fine.per- formance . Zurich Flyers defeat Mohawks On Sunday afternoon the Zur- ich Flyers knocked off the league leading Exeter Mohawks 8-7 in S.H.H,L. action. With the game only 35 sec- onds old Jack Glover scored fron Gus Brown. The Flyers tied it up at 3:13 as Rick Schilbe pick- ed the top right hand corner unassisted. Exeter went ahead at 16:10 as Al Rimmer and Den- nis Bierling combined to give Exeter the lead. In the second period Dick Bedard scored two with Ron Desjardine and Ken Smale each picking up one as the Flyers outscored the Mohawks 4-3. Larry Willert, Bob Parsons and Brad Datars scored for Exeter. Rod Chapman gave Zurich the lead at the 20 .second mark of the third period with Ron Rader and Ken Smale drawing the assists. At 3:46 the Flyers went ahead by two as Ron Rader scored from Dick Bedard. Exeter came back and tied the score as Al Rimmer and Gary Kyle beat goaltender Percy Bedard. With only three minutes rem- aining in the garne Rick Schilbe with.his second goal of the game gave the Flyers the win, Coach Merner praised his team for playing as a unit with both defence and offence doing their job. There were 16 penalties assessed with Exeter drawing 11. The Flyers next home game is Monday, January 20 as the fast skating College team clash with the Flyers.
