HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1976-12-22, Page 11Shipka defeats Hensall The Shipka Colonials defeat- ed Hensall by a score of nine to four at a game played in Zurich last Friday. Shipka opened the scoring in the first period with a goal by Paul McGuire assisted by Tom Richardson, Hensall came right back with a goal of their own as Paul McClinchey tucked one in the net assisted by Fred Campbell. It was then Shipka took over, scoring four tines before the end of the first period. Goals by Paul McGuire, Ed Grenier, Larry Laye and Tom Richardson gave Shipka a five to one lead going into the second period. Shipka as- sists went to Gary Jennison, Tom Richardson and Mike Desjardine. Hensall opened the scoring in the second period as Dwight Consitt tucked one in the net assisted by Doug Smith. Fight- ing back, Reid Burley took the. puck and scored single handed for Shipka. Not to be left too far be- hind, Wayne Corbett scored one more for Hensall, assisted by Dwight Consitt and again, Bill Chipchase scored for Hensall assisted by Paul McClinchey. The second period ended with Shipka ahead by a score of six to four. The third period belonged to Shipka as they scored three times while holding Hensall scoreless. Tom Anderson, Peter Gill and Paul McGuire scored the Shipka goals assisted by Reid 'Burley, Larry Laye and Gary Jennison. The final score of the game was Shipka nine, Hensall five. • In a second game last week, the Shipka Colonials played the N. Middlesex Merchants to a five to five tie in Parkhill. The game was an exciting, penalty -filled game as each team fought to take the lead. The Merchants opened the scoring in the first period, but Shipka was not long in coming back. Not to be left behind, the Merchants not only tied the Colonials, they took the lead away from them to end the first period leading three goals to two. Both teams received six minor penalties in the first period. Despite being shorthanded five times in the second period to the Merchants four, the Colonials managed to score twice while holding the Mer- chants to one goal. Mike Desjardine and Paul McGuire scored for Shipka assisted by Tom Richardson and Don Stan - lake. At the end of the second period, the two teams were in a deadlock, four-four. In the third period the mer- chants opened the scoring and then succumbed to a rash of penalties as they picked up five minors plus one miscon- duct to Kevin McGuire. How- ever, Shipka was only able to connect once more before the end of the game as Steve Schro- eder tied the game with an unassisted goal. The game end- ed in a five to five tie. The Colonials next games will be played in Goderich January 4, and tenatively January 7 in Zurich against Zurich. Santa Maus Santa Claus is so big and fat If he fell over there would be a big splat.
