Hawks take lead defeating Lucan
In a reversal from their usual
early season pattern, the Hawks
took the lead over Lucan
Wednesday and were never head-
ed. It was a four goal outburst in
the last half of the second period
which actually made the
difference.
The Exeter club led 1-0 at the
. end of the first period and 2-1 un-
til the 15.37 mark of the middle
frame when they started to pull
away.
The only goal of the first 20
minutes of play came at 17,10
when Fred Mommersteeg blink-
ed the light behind the Lucan net
on a three-way combination with
Ken Pinder and John Van
Gerwen.
At 14.24 of the second session
the Hawks took a 2-0 lead when
Brian Taylor scored on an un-
assisted effort.
Only 20, seconds later the Irish
hit the scoreboard for the first
time as Ken Murray clicked with
assists going to Brad Taylor and
Don Latta.
The Hawks quickly opened up
the lead again with three
successful shots in the remaining
moments in the second period.
Paul Pooley was first to check
onto thescoreboard.He converted
passes from Steve Jennison and
Fred Mommersteeg at 15.31.
Less than two minutes later
Ken Pinder tallied on a play
originated by Tom Hayter and
Fred Mommersteeg. The final
goal of the middle frame came
from the stick of Brian Taylor as
he fired in a pass from Gerald
Weido.
The final Exeter goal late in
the third period whs an identical
play with Taylor scoring from,
Weido.
