awks score two victories
The Exeter Hawks scored two
victories this week in the Ontario
Hockey Association Junior "D"
western division to up their
season point total to 13.
The Mitchell Hawks continue
to Tiold down first place with 15,
points, but the Exeter club has
three games in hand.
Friday night in Thamesford the
Hawks scored 10-7 win over the
Thamesford Trojans and Sunday
night at the Hensall arena, the
Exeter club downed the Belmont
Bombers 6-2.
Thehawks are back in action on
three occasions this week. They
were in Lucan last night,
Wednesday to meet the Irish.
Saturday they travel to Mt.
Brydges and Sunday night they
will meet the same Mt. Brydges
team at the Zurich arena at 8
p.m.
Theremaining home games for
the Hawks will be played at the
Zurich arena, mostly on Sunday

Slow start
In Hensall Sunday night, the
Hawks got off to a slow start
allowing Belmont to hop into a 2-0
lead by the eight minute mark of
the second period.
Rick Ingram fired an
unassisted goal at 17 minutes of
the middle frame to cut the
Exeter deficit to a single goal.
The Hawks bounced back with
three goals in the first six
minutes of the final period and
were never headed.
Phil Knight converted a pass
from Don McKellar at 3:35 of the
third to even the score at two
goals. Only 45 seconds later Fred
Mommersteeg scored what
proved to be the winning goal on a
three-way effort with Ken Pinder
and John Van Gerwen.
At 5:50 the light behind the
Belmont net blinked again. This
time Gerald Weido hit the mark
on passes from Brian Taylor and
captain Steve Jennison.
The fifth Exeter goal came
from the stick of Paul Brooks
with the assist going to Brian
Taylor. The final Exeter counter
was chalked up by Ken Pinder.
Assisting were John Van Gerwen
and Fred Mommersteeg.
The Belmont marksmen were
Paul Logan and Bill Willsie.
Each team scored one goal on a
power play advantage. Gerald
Weido was the Exeter scorer
while Puul Logan counted for
Belmont with Paul Brooks off for
interference in the first period.
Randy Lovie was in goal for the
Hawks and was able to keep his
doorstep clean after 7:47 second
period.
The two stars for the Hawks
winning the McKnight Men's
Wear awards were Phil Knight
and Don McKellar.
Another slow start
Friday's Hawks victory in
Thamesford was accomplished in
Council nominations
for Tuckersmith
Ervin Sillery is the new reeve
of Tuckersmith township. As
his was the only nomination
paper received by the clerk of
the township by the deadline
Monday, he is elected by accla-
mation.
Robert Bell is Deputy -Reeve
by acclamation for the town-
ship as his nomination was the
only one received by the clerk
before the deadline.
However, there were eight
nominations received for
the three positions as council
members. They are: Rob Gates,
Robert Drummond, Wilf Schne-
ider, Robert Sotheringham,
Ronald Broome, Frank Fal-
coner, William C. Brown and
Peter F. Jensen.
Those nominated have until
5 p.m. Tuesday to withdraw
their names if they so desire.
Three nominations were
received for the position of
trustee to the Huron Board of
Education. They are Rob Gates,
Kenneth C. Cooke and Mrs.
Dorothy Williams.
The only nomination receiv-
ed for the position of trustee
on the Huron Perth Separate
School Board was Michael
Connolly.
Bean Festival
Annual meeting
The annual meeting of the
Zurich Bean Festival was held
November 3, 1976 at Hay Town-
ship Hall.
Slate of officers for the new
year: president, Jack Eckel;
first vice-president, Herb Turk-
heim; second vice-president,
George Haggitt; secretary, Hel-
en Horner; treasurer, Robert
Redick.
Glen Thiel and Glenn Weido
were named honorary presid-
ents for their many endeavors
in the past 10 years.

Thamesford club scored three
times in the first four minutes of
play.
Behind 3-0, the Hawks found
the scoring range for the first
time at 8:37 of the opening frame
on a successful shot by Paul
Brooks on a three-way com-
bination with Ken Pinder and
Brian Taylor.
Before the first 20 minutes had
elapsed the score was all even at
4-4. Phil Knight scored the second
Exeter marker on a pass from
Fred Mommersteeg and Perry
Pooley hit the mark on passes
from Fred Mommersteeg and
Paul Brooks.
The fourth Hawks goal came as
the result of a power play with
Fred Mommersteeg firing
the shot and the assist went to
Ken Pinder.
The Hawks scored twice in the
second period while the Trojans
counted once. Ken Pinder con-
verted a pass from Perry Pooley
and Rick Ingram registered with
passing help from Brian Taylor
and Steve Jennison on another
power play.
In the closing session, Ken
Pinder found the mark with two
shots to claim a hat trick for his
night's efforts and Matt Muller
and Rick Ingram added singles.
Pinder's first goal came on a
solo effort and 'assists on the
second were provided by Phil
Knight and Fred Mommersteeg.
Don McKellar and Paul ,Brooks
set up Matt Muller and Jim
Ferguson assisted on- Rick
Ingram's score.
