Joseph Hoffman and incumbent

the position of reeve.
For the position of deputy -
reeve, incumbent Joseph Miller
is being challenged by Claire
Deichert.
The three positions as coun-

Mr. Bedard and Mr. Wilder

tion the Separate School Board

Huron Board of Education
member and Charles Rau the

Education.
Stanley council.
in by acclamation
Stanley township ratepayers
will not have an election to go
through this year as the entire
council has been decided by
acclamation. •
By the nomintion deadline
of 5 p.m. Monday, the only
nomination received for reeve
was Thomas Consitt.
Paul Steckle is by acclamation
Stanley's deputy -reeve and the
councillors will be Donald
Brodie, Clarence Rau and Don-
ald McGregor. Mr. Rau is the
only new member of council.
The only nomination for the
Huron County Board of Educa-

Council says South Huron
Rec league too large
Zurich council decided to
advise the Exeter council they
do not wish to join a South
Huron Recreation Association
as proposed by Exeter. The de-
cision was reached after a re-
port was received from the Zur-
ich Recreation, Parks and Com-
munity Centre Board giving its
views on the proposed assoica-
tion .
In its report to council, the
board stated the proposed
South Huron Recreation Asso-
ciation comprised of seven mun-
icipalities and three community
centres appeared to be unsat-
isfactory for the purpose in-
tended for a group function.
The board said such a group
might be functional if it's pur-
pose were only to co-ordinate
existing recreational activities
and to foster new programmes.
However, the pressing con-
cern of the County and the small
centres with facilities as the
board sees it is the desperate
need for Cost -Sharing on a us-
age basis. The board felt the
only way to attack this prob-
lem was to go directly to small
groups.
Small groups made up of
only two or three munici-
palities with one community
centre as the focal point would
have • much stronger common
interest and with only one
facility to contend with, would
be much simpler and less con-
troversial when co-operating
on a cost-sharing basis.
The board added they con-
sider the present financial
burdens to be the very root of
the problem and if it were dis-
posed of through the formation
of small groups, then it is quite
possible these municipalities
would then have resources to
use in promoting new program-
mes.
The board suggested that at
that point in time, co-ordinating
would be necessary and this
could be done by an advisory
group such as being promoted
now by Exeter and could prop-
erly utilize the services of a
Recreation Director for the
area.
The board added the duties
imposed on the existing board
members are such that the re-
quired negotiations in forming
any group be done at the heads -
of -council level rather than
asking the board • to undertake
such negotiations.
The group being seriously
considered by council would be
Zurich, Hay and Grand Bend.
Reeve Fred Haberer said he
would be willing to talk to the
reeves in this recommended
area to see if they would be
willing to form such a group on
a cost-sharing basis.
Mr. Haberer added, "I
don'tsee how an area can work
unless there is only one facility
per group."
Winter conditions
plague drivers
Winter conditions continued to
plague area drivers this week,
although the number of collisions
was down somewhat over the
previous week.
The most serious accident
occurred on Wednesday, when
vehicles driven by Walter Marsh,
Wharncliffe Road, London, and
Dr. C. Moyo, RR 4 Seaforth,
collided on Highway 4 south of
Kippen.
Both drivers and passengers
Roger Larch and William Marsh
both of London, sustained minor
injuries.
OPP Constable Wally Tomasik
investigated and listed total
damage at $5,000.
Another Wednesday crash, a
vehicle driven by Eleanor Sadler,
RR Parkhill, skidded into
the ditch on County Roads 2 in
Stephen and damage was set at
$800 by Constable Bill Lewis. The
road was covered with slush at
the time.
There were two accidents on
Thursday, the first involving a
vehicle operated by Lorne Miller,
RR 1 Dashwood. It skidded into
the ditch on Concession 14 of Hay
and struck a hydro pole. Miller
sustained minor injuries and
damage was listed at $2,000 by
Constable Jack Straughan.

Benefit
Keith Anger, 27, bought a
farm at R.R. 3, Zurich, about a
year ago. This past October, he
lost his arm and suffered
other injuries in an accident
involving his corn picker. He
is no longer in intensive care,
but is still in the hospital in
London.
To show Mr. Anger and his
family the community is behind
them, a benefit dance is being
held in the Zurich Community
Centre on Friday, December 10,
1976. Music will be supplied
by the Silvertones. Tickets are
$7.00 per couple with lunch
provided and are available from
Don Beauchamps, 236-4316 and
Gerard Masse, 236-4090. Ev-
eryone's support would be
appreciated to make the dance a
success.
places on council and only
four nomination papers were
received. The new Zurich coun-
cil for the next term of 'office
is Ray McKinnon, Leroy Thiel,
Claude Gelinas and Isadore
Laporte.
There were no nominations
for PUC in Zurich as in the
village the PUC is a committee
of council.
The school board trustees for
this area also succeeded in
entering into office by acclama-
tion with Treffley Jeffrey being
nominated for the Huron -
Perth Separate School Board,
Herb Turkheim for the Huron
Board of Education and Charles
Rau for the Separate School
representative on the Huron
County Board of Education.
