president
wins award
In a recent letter to Milt
Van Patter, secretary of Bay-
field Lions Club, Harry J.
Alsam, president of lions Inter-
national, informed us that Past
president Ross Merrill has been
awarded the one hundred per
cent president's award for 1975-
76 by Lions International.
He extended his personal
thanks and congratulations and
also the thanks of the officers
and directors of Lions Inter-
national for his leadership. We
chose our last dinner meeting
for the presentation of this
award to Ross and our guest
speaker, Zone Chairman, Glen
Kells, of the Exeter Lions Club
made the presentation.
We had had a great year to-
gether and as our new year
gets underway, we can have
the satisfaction of knowing that
because of the many dedicated
Lions in Clubs such as ours,
have followed the traditional
motto of Lions International
"We Serve" we have shown
that Lionism is truly opportu-
nity.
We of the Bayfield Lions club
extend an open invitation to
the men of the area to become
members of our club. Everyone
is invited to the Halloween
Masquerade dance September
30 at the Town Hall which is
sponsored by the Lions Club.
Council makes
Bicentennial
visit
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Oddleifson,
Mr. and Mrs. Don Warner and
Mr. and Mrs. Walt Erickson
were in Davisburg, Michigan,
and Waterford, Michigan, Sat-
urday and Sunday. The purpose
of the visit to Michigan was by
invitation of the Oakland
County Bicentennial Commision
to attend their Bicentennial
Harvest Social held in Spring-
field Oaks.
During the ceremonies, Ed
Oddleifson on behalf of the
Village of Bayfield presented a
framed black and white pen
and ink drawing of the Bayfield
Library building drawn by Jim
Marlatt of Goderich, as a
"Hands across the border",
friendship gesture. This was
received by Mr. Robert • Page,
County commissioner and Bi-
centennial chairman.
Several draws were held for
prizes and Milvena Erickson
won the first prize of an electric
crock pot, her husband Walter
won the last price of a cook
book entitled "The First Ladies
Cook Book" and includes
favourite recipes of U.S. Presid-
ents and their wives. Mrs. Odd-
leifson won the beautiful table
centrepiece that had graced
the dining table during the
evening. All the guests were
also presented with a Bicenten-
nial Historical Sketch of Oak-
land County, Michigan, from
1815-1976. The book is entitled
"Out of Small Beginnings"
and was presented by Mr.
Benjamin Franklin Thomas
IV, Bicentennial co-ordinator.
Young people
The young people met at the
Church for a masquerade
party. They went on a hay ride
with Doug keys supplying the
wagon, hay and tractor. The
kids had a great time in spite of
nearly freezing. After the hay
ride they went to the Munici-
pal Building where they had the
usual Halloween games and fun
with their serious moments and
prayer. Mrs. Ann Chapman
and Mrs. Carleen Phoenix very
graciously helped with the pro-
gram and also attended in
costume.
