New tug
joins fleet
A fishing tug and trawler
joined the fleet of tugs in the
Bayfield River on Monday
morning when the 65 foot
Ferroclad entered the harbour
to berth herself on the north
side of the river in front of the
McLeod Fisheries.
The tug Ferroclad, meaning
"Shackled in Iron" was pur-
chased by Donald R. McLeod
of Bayfield from her former
master Bob Foote, a once
Bayfield resident. When pur-
chased he had been fishing out
of Port Burwell. She was
built by George Gamble of
Port Dover and is registered
there. The Ferroclad is fully
equiped as a trawler and also
has an automatic pilot, depth
finder and radar.
This new tug should enable
the McLeods to bring in good
catches of fish from Lake Huron
for their retail -wholesale fish
store. The W.J. McLeod their
former fishing tug had out-
grown her usefullness so Don-
ald was forced into a bigger
ANCHOR FOUND OFF BAYFIELD—Bayfield town foreman John Lindsay examines an anchor with
Milvena Erikson of the Bayfield Historical society. The anchor was found about three miles north of
Bayfield in 30 feet of water by a fishing tug crew when it fouled their nets. The anchor is believed to
be around 100 years old and has been donated to the Bayfield Historical society.

Food prices
"Not enough attention is being
paid to the role which food prices
is playing in keeping down the
cost of living",said Gordon Hill,
President of the Ontario
Federation of Agriculture.
Mr. Hill explained: "Food
prices have decreased while the
prices of all other major con-
sumer items have increased.
From September 1975 to Sep-
tember 1976, housing (including
utilities, furniture, appliances,
etc.) increased 11.2 percent.
Clothing increased 5.8 percent
and transportation increased 10.1
percent. In the same period, food
at home decreased 2 percent and
total food decreased 0.5 percent."
"If other prices had stayed the
same as they were in September
1975, and only food at home had
made its change of -2 percent, the
Consumer Price Index would
have dropped about 0.5 percent.
Instead, it increased 6.5 percent"
said Mr. Hill.
"Too much has been said lately
about the supposed costs of
supply management and
marketing boards. These figures
show clearly that food prices
have not been increasing at an
alarming rate and indeed have
not been increasing at all.
Marketing boards are not villains
and they may even be heroes"
concluded Mr. Hill.
