they won many friends.
The team says thank you to
the Bayfield Lions Club for their
$75 donation which bought
many uniforms.
A special thank you to Mrs.
Barbara Telford for her support
and help throughout the season.
We hope to have another suc-
cessful year in 1977.
The boys in the team pre-
sented their coach with the gift
of a wallet in appreciation for
his acting as their coach.
Thank you very much boys
from your coach, Fred Gale.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gale
deserve a vote of thanks from
the parents and the community,
not just for the coaching of the
game but for their kindness,
understanding and patience
which they have given these
boys. So lets get behind them
next year and attend the games
these kids work so hard at.
BAYFIELD I 4-H CLUB
The Bionic Barleys met for
their second meeting on Tues-
day, October 5 at the home of
Mrs. Ann Chapman in Bay-
field: Eight members were
present and answered the roll
call.
A discussion of the structure
and food value of cereal grains
was led by Mrs. Phoenix. We
also discussed the difference
between whole grain and refin-
ed cereals.
Mrs. Chapman demonstrated
the correct procedure for mak-
ing cooked cereal. She cooked
Vita -B Cereal and we all tasted
it.
Patti Greer and Joanne Chap-
man worked together making
dogwoods and onion rice_ They
were served along with a drink
of apple cider. -
Diane Garrett and Cheryl
Dunn helped with the cleaning
up and we ended our meeting
with the 4-H motto "Learn to do
by doing"
BAYFIELD II 4-H CLUB
The first meeting was held at
the home of Mrs Joan Merner,
Wednesday, October 6 at 7 p.m.
The new officers for the year
are president, Wendy Pen -
hale; - vice president, Karen
Erb and press reporter, Julie
Roberts. We had one new
member Kathy Talbot.
The roll call was "A cereal
product I have never eaten
but would like to try" . Some
answers were Harvest Crunch
and Wheat-a-Bix.
At this meeting fry -pan cook-
ies were made which contain
eggs, brown sugar, dates,
vanilla, salt, (crisp ready to eat)
cereal and coconut or chopped
nuts. This recipe was found in
the members pamphlet and was
used for Club activity.
At the close of the meeting
we all sat down and enjoyed
fry -pan cookies and milk. It
was very good.
The next meeting will be at
Mrs. Joan Merner's at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, October 13.
BAYFIELD BROWNIES
The first meeting of the
first Bayfield Brownies Pack
was held in the Municipal
Building, Wednesday evening,
October 6, 6:30 to 8:00. There
were 21 girls that came out in
the wet weather for the meet-
ing.
The Brownie sixes were'
formed and they are as follows:
"Gnomes Six" Debbie Siert-
sema sixer and Leigh -Ann
Tamon seconder. "Pixes" Lisa
Talbot sixer and Barbara
Hutchings seconder. "Elves"
Darlene Smith sixer and Jahe
Sturgeon seconder and the
"Faries" Lisa Telford sixer and
Lisa Tamon seconder.
Lisa Talbot, Ann Bornath and
Darlene Smith were absent.
We had many new Tweenies
and they are Julie Porter,
Melanie Van Patter, Julie
Boyce, Allison Dunn, Roxanne
1976
Martin, Julie Ritchie, Colleen
Cluff, Mary Ellen Van Aaken,
Gayle Dunn, and Peggy Van
Wonderan. Tracy Fancher was
fairy queen.
In our work session we cut
out and made up on wallpaper,
samples of pictures of our-
selves, our family, our pets,
and our favourit food. We were
all given Brownie calendars to
sell in the next week. The cost
is 75¢ each and a little bit of
this money we can keep for the
Brownie fund. The Brownies
and our leaders Brown Owl
Carol Penhale and Tawny Owl
Charlene Porter closed the
meeting with our Goodbye
Song.
UCW holds Thanksoffering meeting
A large attendance of mem-
bers -of the Zurich L.C.W. were
present as the guests of the
U.C.W. for their October
Thanksoffering meeting.
Mrs. Ross Johnson welcomed
the visitors and opened the
meeting with a poem "Nature's
Thanksgiving" after which the
scripture taken from Luke
Chapter 17, verses 11-19 was
read by Mrs. Dorothy Koehler.
Musical numbers by the Leon
Bedard family weregreatly
enjoyed by everyone present.
Mrs. Leroy O'Brien intro-
duced our guest of the even-
ing, Mrs. Shirley McAllister
who showed slides of a trip
taken this summer to the
British Isles by her and her
family which along with her
commentary were quite inter-
esting.
Following lunch, a short
business meeting was held.
It was agreed by the members
that a plaque should be placed
in the new kitchen in memory
of Mrs. Mame Hoffman.
A donation of $15.00 was
made to the Canadian Institute
for the Blind. Members dis-
cussed the change to evenings
for regional meetings as re-
quested at the meeting held in
Hensall the previous day.
It was also agreed that the
November U.C.W. meeting
would be held on Thursday,
October 28, in order to have
Brother Bob Mittleholtz as the
guest speaker.
Thirty-eight members ans-
wered the roll call following
which the meeting adjourned.
