Childhood right time to teach nutrition
Nutritionists agree that child-
hood is an excellent time to
teach children the importance
of eating the right foods. The
habits established follow them
into their adult years for a
healthier life.
Students in their early teens
have been taught nutrit?rm for
many years. However. only
recently have educators recog-
nized the need to present
nutrition information in the
children's first year of school.
The school curriculum is most
effective if parents reinforce
this interest in nutrition by
setting an example for their
children. Meals at home should
contain a variety of essential
foods and stress should hc plac-
ed on the importanc of outing
several different foods every
day.
To expand the ways children
can learn about foods and
health The Kellogg Nutrition
Council has introduced a new
animated film entitled "Jour-
ney Through Nutritionland".
The 20 -minute film is aimed at
the 5-12 year old age group.
In the film five children fall
asleep on a camping trip and
dream they are in a strange new
and exciting kingdom called
Nutritionland. The king of the
country takes the children on a
tour of his realm where they
are introduced to many charac-
ters, each of which represent
nutrients found in food.
Mr. Protein, Ms. Fats and
Mr, Iron, for example are
carefully characterized to pre-
sent what they do for children

and in what foods they are
found.
The film is available on a free
loan basis in French and Eng-
lish from Association Films,
,333 Adelaide Street West,
Toronto, Ontario.

This speciman was not the only potato the Willert's found in
their garden, but it was definitely the biggest.
