HEADING FOR THE NET — This shot by Gerald Weido appears to be heading for the open net, but it slid
right through the crease and out the other side. Hawks Brian Taylor (10) skates in for the rebound, but he
missed. Exeter won the exhibition contest by a 5-0 count over Lucan. The Hawks meet Tavistock in their
league opener Friday night at Huron Park,

Osborne school wins four
of six cross-country runs
Usborne township public
school carried away the most
pennants from a cross-country
competition held Thursday at
the farm of Ron Jewitt. They
won top team honors in the
Junior Girls, Intermediate
Girls, Intermediate Boys and
Senior Girls divisions over the
five other school teams entered.
Hensall , public school team
won taV,Xop honors in the
Junior Boys division and Mc-
Curdy won in the Senior Boys
division.
The course was approximate-
ly 1 1/2 miles in length over
fairly rugged hilly terrain. This
is the first time the schools
have used such a rugged course
as usually one is staked out at
Pineridge near I-Iensall and is
a fairly flat course. However,
the increased difficulty of the
course did not stop the students
from all the schools making a
fine showing and putting a lot
of effort into their races.
The individual winners in
the various categories are as
follows:
Junior Boys -first, Scott Din-
ney. Stephen township; second,
Rod Parker, Hensall; third,
Brent Dawson, Usborne town-
ship.
Junior Girls -first, Joanne
Miller, Usborne township: sec-
ond. Pauline Brand, Stephen
township; third, Mary Lynn
Pride, Hensall.
Intermediate Girls -first, Lau-
rie Brand, Stephen township;
second Catherine Patterson,
Exeter; third, Sharon Rundle,
Usborne township.
Intermediate Boys -first, Billy
Livingston, Zurich; second,
Catherine Patterson, Exeter;
third, Sharon Rundle, Usborne
township.
Intermediate Boys -first, Billy
Livingston, Zurich; second,
Ron Snellgrove, Usborne town-
ship: third, Jamie Chaffe, Us -
borne township.
Senior Girls -first, Shelley
Wegg, Usborne township; sec-
ond, Margaret Pym, Osborne
township; third, Brenda Brand,
