BLUE WATER REST HOME
oiler •:. __ „fig .
Sorry, I missed the deadline
for the paper last week, and for
those who asked, that is the
reason the column was missing.
Fall has officially been usher-
ed in and I believe September is
one of the most enjoyable sea-
sons of the year, with the
exception that perhaps winter is
creeping up faster than we care
to think. I imagine a good
many mothers heaved a sigh of
relief when the children got
back to school and into normal
schedules again.
We have been enjoying beau-
tiful floral arrangements, also
delicious fruits and vegetables
from many gardens this sum-
mer, which our Residents very
much enjoy.
The sympathy of Residents
and Staff is extended to the
families of the late Mr. Edgar
Squire and Mr. Floyd Pridham.
On Tuesday evening the
Ladies Auxiliary held their
monthly meeting in the dining -
room. The programme was
provided by Messrs. Mozard
Gelinas and Gerard Charrette.
At the close of the program
HURONVIEW
Mr. Harry Lear was guest
soloist at the Sunday morning
chapel service and was accom-
panied at the organ by his
wife, Gail. The service was
conducted by the Chaplain,
Rev. McWhinnie, with Doug
Crich at the organ.
Marie Flynn, Norman Speir
and Lorne Lawson provided the
old tyme music for Monday's
activities. Three new residents
were welcomed to the Home:
Mrs. Underwood, Wingham,
and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Love,
1-lensall. The special guest
for the afternoon was Mr. Allan
Johns of Vancouver, B.C.,
a native of Tuckersmith and a
very active volunteer worker
in his home community: The
Clinton Christian Reform vol-
unteers assisted with the
activities.
"The Pathfinders" a group
of seven girls from the Blyth
Christian Reform Church, en-.
tertained on Family Night with
gospel music. The girls sang
several of the older hymns tak-
ing different parts and in har-
mony—the favourite being the
old spiritual "Steal Away".
The Crediton Women's Insti-
tute were hosts for the Septem-
ber birthday party. Mrs. Nor-
man Eveland was emcee for the
afternoon. Mrs. Don Fink-
beiner, Lois Hodgins, Otis
Sawyer, Ross and Nola Love
provided the program. Gifts
were presented to the twenty-
seven celebrants and lunch
was served by the ladies.
Harvest
(continued from page 1)
is delaying the bean harvest,
Mr. Miller pointed out. Many of
the farmers have spring wheat
to plant and if they haven't got
their beans off soon there may
be some difficulty getting
the planting done.
The sileage corn harvest is
just getting started and the
grain corn harvesting is still a
few weeks away according to
Mr. Miller. The warmer weath-
er in the past while has helped
the corn a good deal and most
of it is now ripe enough that
even frost wouldn't hurt, in
fact, a frost would help the
corn ripen. Another week or two
of good weather would ensure
a good corn crop.
ref •eshments were enjoyed
after which the members of the
Auxiliary adjourned to the hob-
by room for the business part
of the meeting. According to
reports, the Auxiliary's booth
and quilt raffle at the bean
festival was a considerable
help_ to their financial status.
Mrs. Gladys Gingerich, presid-
ent of the Auxiliary, Mrs. Barb-
ara Shephard, R.N., Nur'ing
Director and Mr. and Mrs.
Josef Risi were in Toronto
last week attending a conven-
tion. We welcome Mrs, Willa
Brock, formerly of Exeter and
Mrs. Ethel Hays, formerly of
Goderich as new guests.
Bingo has been played on
Friday afternoons the last coup-
le of weeks.
New tenants who' have re-
cently taken up residency in
the Maplewoods Apartments
are Mr. and Mrs. Ribey and
Mrs. Mabel Blackburn, all
former Exeter Residents, also
Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Corriveau
formerly of Stratford. All of
the wing facing the east is now
occupied, and we have only
four unreserved apartments in
the other wing.
The Sunday evening chapel
service was conducted by Rev.
Wilfred Jarvis of Exeter Presby-
terian church two weeks ago
and Rev. Bruce Pierce of the
Crediton United church had
charge of the service this past
Sunday evening. Mrs. Ed
Finkbeiner presided at the
organ and Mrs. Gloria Martin
and Mrs. Marguerite Fink-
beiner sang a duet. Mrs. Bruce
Pierce was the soloist.
I fell that we have been
somewhat remiss in that we
have not expressed our appreci-
ation to , the Ministers of the
surrounding areas that are
responsible for conducting the
Chapel Services Sunday even-
ings throughout the year, also
to the organists and those who
provide special music during
the services. Although the
Residents may not always
express their appreciation, I
know how much it really means
to them.
