UCW hold first fall meeting
Zurich United Church Wo-
men met on Thursday evening,
September 9, for their first
meeting of the fall season with
an attendance of 32 members
and 10 visitors.
Mrs. Elwood Truemner was
in charge of the worship per-
iod. Piano solos by Miss Betty
Jean McLean of London were
greatly enjoyed by the mem-
bers.
Mrs. Clarence Schade read
the Scripture from 1 Corr.
Chapter 1 after which Mrs.
Herb Neeb read some short
poems - "Work", "School
Day Reflections" and "Vaca-
tion's Over" .
Three girls, Peggy and Jody
Hay and Connie Hay accom-
panied by Mrs. M. Steckle
delighted us with their song
and also a number "Coat of
Many Colors" sang unaccom-
panied by Peggy Hay was
really enjoyed.
A revised version of "The
Ten Commandments" was giv-
en by Mrs. Clarence Schade
and Miss Pearl Wurtz.
Miss Olive O'Brien gave a
very interesting commentary
on `Mottos' which she had
received which were printed on
a placemat and invited the
audience to give their thoughts
on the different sayings.
The worship period closed by
the singing of the hymn "Give

business. Mrs. Elroy Des-
jardine, convener of the church
booth at the Bean Festival
reported very successful sales,
of quilts, pies and baking and
at the white elephant table.

An invitation will be sent to
the ladies of Zurich L.C.W. to
attend our October Thankoffer-
ing meeting.
Following lunch, the mem-
bers greatly admired the new
kitchen cupboards and renova-
tions which had been made
during the summer.
Fund raising committee
for Zurich arena formed
needed to renovate the arena.
A reasonable sum will be
allowed for the financing of the
campaign from the funds
raised. The committee will
function no longer than 36
months after its formation and
'must give receipts on behalf of
the village for all donations.
Ray McKinnon was also
appointed as .a member of the
committee by council.
Robert Redick is the chair-
man of a committee authorized
by the Zurich council at its
last meeting to raise funds for
renovations to the area and
community centre in Zurich.
Council asked Mr. Redick
to be in charge of raising funds
through donations and fund
raising events to an amount of
$35,000 as these funds are
