Dashwood eliminated
The Dashwood Tigers were
quickly eliminated in the second
round of playoffs in the Ontario
Baseball Association.
After disposing of Tillsonburg
in three games, the Tigers found
their next opposition to be
perennial playoff contenders
from Corunna.
The Corunna club scored a very
lopsided 18-0 win over the Tigers
in Dashwood Friday night and
came right back on their home
field Sunday afternoon with a 12-9
victory to sweep the best -of -three
series.
Sundays contest was a close
affair from start to finish with the
Tigers staying in contention until
the late innings. After trailing in
the early innings they scored
twice in the seventh inning to cut
the deficit to 7-6.
Corunna notched three runs in
the bottom of the seventh only to
have the Dashwood club come
back with the same number of
runs in the eighth. The home
team scored twice in their half of
the same inning to provide the
margin of victory.
The first Tiger tally came in
the second when shortstop John
Hayter doubled and scored on a
single from the bat of Perry
Stover.
In the Dashwood third, Bob
Hoffman opened with a walk,
Dave Parsons singled, Glenn
Thurman was safe on an error
and John Hayter rapped a single
to produce three runs.
In the seventh, Jim Guenther
stroked a single and Brad Gregus
followed with a long home run to
clear the bases. -
A double by Glenn Thurman
and singles delivered by Jim
Dietrich, Dave Parsons and Jim
Guenther sent the final three
Dashwood runs across the plate.
Lefty Jim Guenther was on the
mound for the Tigers. He allowed
16 hits while recording five
strikeouts.
Fall behind early
In Dashwood Friday night, the
visitors from Corunna wasted
little time getting on the
scoreboard with four runs in the
•
first inning. Their big rally came
in the fifth when they scored nine
times.
Although the Tigers were
unable to score they did threaten
by loading the bases in three
different innings. Two of the six
Dashwood hits came from the bat
of Gary Hartman. Hitting in
single fashion were Bill Schade,
Brad Gregus, Rick Bowers and
John Hayter:
• Perry Stover was the starting
pitcher for Dashwood. He was
relieved by Bill Schade in the
fifth and Rick Bowers came on to
start the fifth. Bowers, up ,from
the Crediton juniors retired six
Corunna batters in a row,
striking out three.

A meeting of the 10 teams in the
two area groupings has been
scheduled for next Monday night.
The hawks will be competing
in the northern division along
with the Lucan Irish, Mitchell
Hawks, Tavistock Braves and
Sea forth Centennaires.
Two new clubs have joined the
southern division. They are from
Thamesford and Lambeth. The
latter club was inactive for only
one year and is coming back
again.
The OHA has already set out
the playoff structure and winners
in the two local groupings will go
directly into provincial
playdowns. The southern champs
will go against representatives of
Delhi, Norwich, Port Dover area
in the. first round While the nor-
thern winners will face the best
from the Haliburton, Bancroft,
Lakefield, etc. grouping.
League winners are to be
decided in time to start provin-
cial playdowns by March 11.
The Hawks will again be
coached by (,len "Rocky" Weise
who took over the club part way
through the 1975-76 season.
With most of last year's roster
returning, Mommersteeg and
Weise are confident the Hawks
have a good chance at the OHA
,Junior `I)' Championship.

In Lucan's half of the fifth
they came up with a pair of

one run. In Zurich's top of the
sixth inning they regained their
three lead over Lucan as they
scored a pair of runs. With one
out Cliff Gingerich singled and
scored as Paul Morrison hit a
long double to right centre
field. A single by Glen Overholt
moved Paul to third base, then
scored as Dennis Carty threw
a wild pitch. That was the final
scoring as Zurich played tight
defense ball to defeat Lucan. Cliff
Gingerich pitched to entire game
for Zurich and was really tough
as the Lucan batters were unable
to time his fastball, they over
swung on his off speed pitches.
In game two, Zurich dropped a
5-1 decision to Goderich Mc-

point on Zurich settled down and
played good ball but were unable
to make good use of their hits.
Zurich left the bases loaded in the
second inning and left two run-
ners stranded in both the third
and fourth inning. At the end of
the game Zurich had stranded
12 men on base. Zurich scored
their only run on a double by

Glen Overholt moved Paul ' to
third, who then scored on an
infield out by Kevin McKinnon.
Cliff Gingerich again pitched
the entire game for Zurich and
after a shaky start, pitched a rpal
good game.
This ends the third straight
year the Zurich team has played
in tournaments. Over those three
years, we played a total of 19
games, winning eight and losing
11—a very respectable record
when you consider 75% of the
teams we played against, play in
a better calibre league then we
do. The real highlights for the
team this year was beating the
Exeter Royals in the Zurich
Tournament and now the Lucan
Irish in the Goderich Tourna-
ment. Here is the list of the
players that played in the various
tournaments. Wayne Clarke,
Kevin McKinnon, Rick Schilbe,
Pat Bedard, Rick Fisher, Paul
Morrison, Cliff Gingerich, Brian
Hodgins, Murray Morrison, Glen
Overholt, Derek O'Brien, Ken
Clarke, Ron Clarke, Isidore La-
porte, Bob Farquhar.
