Good summer for
G.B. businessmen-
Summer is pretty well over rn
Grand Bend, as far as the tourist
trade goes, and most of the
businesses in the town feel the
summer was very close to last
year as far as sales go.
Ralph McKinnon of the Beehive
hasn't . done his final figures yet
but he thinks his sales will be
close to last years. The number of
people may be down slightly,
but sales were good. Mr. McKin-
non felt July was such an ex-
ceptionally good month sales
wise, it could offset the slight
falling off of business in August.
Business at Flear's Bake shop
was reported as being close to
other years as well. Sales were
about the same, however, the
poor weather may have lowered
the actual number of people
served.
says Mrs. Dejong, "so I get a lot
of the local people in all the time
regardless of the weather."
Mrs. DeJong does not know
how her final figures will compar(
with last year until they hav(
been completed, but she does fee
business was good,
The hotels as well report sale:
very close to last year's. At di(
Colonial Hotel, Harold Klopj
says he can't give any finz
figures for the summer, however
he thought in general busines
appeared as good as in othe
years. Sales may be down a sligh
percentage but it is still too ear13
to tell.
Barbara O'Neal at Brennen
Red Gables also said the sales
have not been totalled yet, but in
general she felt the hotel was
perhaps slightly busier than last
year.
DeJongs clothing store was at So it would seem the poor
least as busy as last year accord- weather this summer did not dis-
ing to Mrs. DeJong, but she attri- courage people from taking their
butes this partially to the fact she vacations and weekends at the
is not totally dependent on the lake. Or, if it disauded a few, the
tourist trade. rest spent enough to make up for
"I have been here 18 years," it.
