Activities
Midway
There's a long list of activities
going on at this year's bean festi-
val including something for
everyone.
Meals
Beginning at 8 a.m. the Zurich
Minor Athletic society is spon-
soring a pancake and sausage
breakfast for the .early birds at
the festival. They will continue
serving until 11 a.m. when the
bean festival committee takes
over and begins serving up .the
hot homemade bean dinner com-
plete with coleslaw and ham for
only $2.
There will be a midway for
the kids all day and in the after-
noon a quarter will get you a
pony ride.4The frog jumping con-
test is also in the afternoon and
anyone with a frog is eligible to
enter. No advance notice is need-
ed, just bring your frog and
hope he jumps in the right
direction.
Dancing
For mom and dad in the after-
noon there is bingo in the arena
auditorium, street dancing in the
mall area and continuous enter -
GOOD TO THE LAST DROP?Glenn Thiel makes sure he gets every
drop of ketchup out of the cans as he pours it"onto the beans and
other ingredients. The beans are then well stirred and placed in
ovens to bake in preparation for the festival on Saturday. The cook-
ing began on Monday night and continues all week.

Pancake breakfast and
home -baked beans
If you are an early -bird, the
Zurich bean festival has some-
thing special for you. At 8 a.m.
the Minor Athletic Society begins
serving a pancake and sausage
breakfast. The sausage is Isadore
Laporte's homemade variety and
the pancakes bear the special
touch of the members of the
athletic society. When they stop
serving breakfast, around 11
a.m., the bean festival committee
takes over by beginning to serve
their baked bean dinners which
continue all afternoon.
Take-home containers of the
bean festival's home baked beans
have always been a popular sell-
ing item, and this year will
likely be no different.
Frozen one pint containers of
the beans are sold for about 50(t
and will keep nicely in your
freezer. However, the bean festi-
val committee usually sells these
containers full of hot from the
oven beans as well. They are, of
course, more expensive for the
simple reason they are a certain
competition for the meal also
being served.
The meal itself is tasty, filling
and very reasonably priced.
For $2.00 you get a large help-
ing of Zurich's own home-made
beans, Cole slaw, dinner ham and
bread and butter. Coffee, soft
drinks and milk will be avail-
able and many of the local
church groups have booths where
you can purchase delicious
homemade pies whole or by the
piece, a delicious ending to a
filling meal.

Crafts
A Conestoga wagon from the
Goderich museum will be on
display and there will be between
28-36 booths full of things to
buy. The operators of the booths
are mostly local groups and
people selling homebaking and
canning, crafts and antiques.
The finale of the day will be
a dance in the arena at night
featuring "Desjardine Orches-
tra" and "The Bluetones".
The dance begins at 8 p.m. and
runs to 1 a.m.
