The meeting presented a brief to Agriculture Minister Eugene Whelan and Bill Doyle, Executive Director of Marketing Services, Ontario Department of Agriculture, who was representing Ontario Agriculture Minister Newman. The brief asked for immediate implementation of an 8 -point program to solve the present problems of Ontario dairy far- mers. Neither Mr. Whelan nor Mr., Doyle would give any assurances that this program would be carried out. The meeting, therefore, ap- pointed a Milk Action Comimittee to seek immediate im- plementation of this program: 1. Nineteen seventy-six gross income, which will be derived from 85 percent of 1975 produc- tion, must be no lower than 1975 gross income. 2. There should either be a change back to yearly quotas or an immediate refund of the May over -quota penalty. 3. The Ontario Government should pay the $1.35 cwt within quota levy until the surplus of milk powder decreases to ac- ceptable levels. 4. The Ontario Government should subsidize the selling of dairy cows at $100 per cow, up to 20 percent of herd. 5. Cheese imports should be reduced and any surplus milk directed to cheese factories. 6. There should be no transfer of quota between provinces. 7. Long-term dairy policy should be set and then not changed suddenly. 8. Both the federal and Ontario governments should make a firm commitment (to negotiate with farmers for a satisfactory solution to dairy problems im- mediately. Take precautions and know your car Drips on the garage floor could mean many things, depending on what's dripping and from where, says the Ontario Safety League. Place newspaper under, the car to catch the next drip- pings and find out whether they're oil, brake fluid, radiator coolant or what. Then you can usually find the source...and the trouble. The only drippings your car should make are plain water from the air conditioner. When a car pulls strongly to one side as the brakes are applied it means you've got a soft tire or, more likely, a contaminated or worn lining. This is a serious safety problem, warns the Ontar- io Safety League, that should be checked out and fixed immediate- ly. You can take it with you and it's a good idea. What? A supply of minor bits and pieces that frequently break and stop you on the raod. If you've got a fan belt, radiator hoses, points, Businessmen combine float The Zurich business associa- tion is entering a combined float in the fair parade on Saturday. Each business is supplying a child representative of his busi- ness dressed in a suitable cost- ume. Preparations for the float began Monday evening in the Lutheran Church shed at 8 p.m. Each business is expected to supply a person to assist in the decoration of the wagon pro- mised. Vibration at specific speeds or at all speeds when driving on the freeway indicates that some- thing is out of balance. Many cases can be cured easily. A tire goes out of balance when a wheel weight falls off or when a new tire is installed without being balanced. Driveshafts can also cause "the shakes," but first check tires and wheels because they're easier to correct and more apt to cause problems.
