Playhouse presents "The Mumberly Inheritance"
This week, the Huron Country
Playhouse, in Grand Bend,
presents The Mumberly
Inheritance, the hilarious
melodrama by Warren Graves.
This is the first Canadian play
to be produced at the Playhouse
this year, in a season comprised
of Canadian works, French and
English works to celebrate
Canadian heritage, and two
American plays in honour of the
U.S. . . Biceptenn
ial,
Last week's French musical,
Irma La Douce, enjoyed out-
standing attendance records,
challenging even those of last
year's biggest hit Hello Dolly.
Set at Mumberly Manor,
Suffolk, at the turn of the century,
this week's melodramatic spoof
ri
is filled with high intrigue and
hilarity. The unfortunate
speculation of Sir Roger Mum-
berly, lord of the manor, has
thrown the family into narrow
straits. The dastardly villain,
Marmaduke Mayhem, plots to
take possession of Mumberly
Manor and its lovely young
mistress Daphne.
Daphne, however, has given
41. her heart to Roger Stoutheart.
Only the return of the long lost
brother, Jack, from "The
Canadas" with the secret of the
inheritance can save the day. A
rousing example of good old-
fashioned
villainy.
The cast of The Mumberly,
Inheritance includes many
Playhouse favourites. Stan Lacey
and M. E. Evans are both very
familiary names to area theatre-
goers. Mr. Evans has appeared in
seven past Playhouse produc-
tions, and Mr, Lacey has per-
formed on the Grand Bend stage
innocence
and
Dell Aerospace
may get
contract
Managing director James G.
Mills of Bell Aerospace in Grand
Bend has revealed that contract
negotiatins with the Federal
Ministry of Transport .have been
quite prominent during the last
two months. The company is
anticipating that the contract will
be issued by the end of July.
This outstanding contract
would mean approximately four
months work for 48 people.
Bell Aerospace have gone
through some difficult times
during the past months resulting
in the layoff of over half their
work force. At the present time
there are 30 persons employed as
opposed to 80 just before
Christmas.
The existing employees consist
of eight in the engineering
department, six in product
support or ' maintenance and
repairing of `crafts in the field,
seven in administration and the
remainder in production.
Beyond the contract now in
negotiation is a possible contract
with the U.S. Federal Govern-
ment Agency which would mean
an additional four or five months
work for approximately the same
amount of personnel. (48).
For the past five months Bell
Aerospace negotiators have been
discussing a very large contract
with Nigeria. It could mean
almost three years of steady
employment on this contract
alone for 150 to 200. Mr. Mills says
there is a 50 percent chance of
landing at least half of it and he is
optlijmistic about it. '
There has also been some in-
dication from the federal
Ministry of transport that the
Canadian Coastguard may
require additional hovercraft for
search and rescue operations as
well as ice breaking. At the
present time one craft previously
purchased by the Canadian Coast
Guard is being refurbished in the
plant.
If none of the contracts come
through within the next two
months, the company may be
forced to cut back to a total of 18
employees, Mr. Mills reported.

Spangled Girl plays brother
"Jack".

Trulie MacLeod and Nancy Palk.
Rob Craig, a member of last
season's Huron Country
Playhouse Young Players is
Musical Director of this
production.

having directed and appeared in
many past Playhouse produc-
tions.
