New marina proposed
Grand Bend council has called
a meeting for August 27 to discuss
a proposal from Southcott Pines
Parklands Limited to establish a
marina and yacht basin.
At that time residents in the
area will be told of the proposal
by the developers and their
engineer B.M. Ross of Goderich.
Don Southcott, representing
Southcott Pines said his group
was far enough advanced with
the plan "to take it to ' the
residents in a public meeting."
Southcott said the marina
would be designed to ac-
commodate sailing craft. He
added, "The present trend seems
to be to sailing and away from
smaller craft."
Reeve Bob Sharen said his
greatest concerns and those of
residents were roads and
drainage.
He added, "nobody will
disagree with more boating sites
but I'm concerned with disrup-
tion of the neighbourhood."
According to present plans,
River Road would be closed off in
the area of the present yacht
club.
Deputy -reeve Rollie Grenier
suggested Lake Road would have
to be widened to take care of the
added traffic from River Road.
Residents who would be most
affected by the marina in-
stallation would "beiiin the areas of
River and Lake Road and Alberta
and Orchard Streets along with
the commercial fishermen.
In calling a meeting for August
27, Reeve Sharen said a decision ,
must be made soon as the
village's sewer system is being
designed.
Sharen added, "Soil tests are
being taken this week for the
sewers."
Southcott said plans called for
adequate parking for up to 40
cars and additional parking
space could be made available on
the south side of Lake Road on
the old river bed.

it's just a drop in the buck.
