Citizens News Photo Still time to plant shade trees, shrubs There is still time to plant your ornamental and shade trees. Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food horticulturist, D.B. McNeill, says, "Nursery stock is now sold by most garden centers in containers which, with a little care, can be planted throughout the summer.•' Healthy, well -growing, plants will suffer little or no setback when transplanted. However, make sure they are kept well watered, especially during really hot weather. Before buying any trees, con- sider the ornamental effect you desire and where they are to be planted. Choose a tree that is suited to the soil type and drain- age in the area. When planting the new tree, do not plant too close to the house or overhead wires. Large trees should be placed at a minimum of 15 to 20 feet away from the building and six to eight feet away from electricity or telephone lines, advises Mr. McNeill. Mr. McNeill says that at this time of year, garden center specialists will have plenty of time to give you ideas and advice on your landscaping plans, so do not be afraid to ask for their help.
