Salad season is here
Ontario salad season is about to
hit us with great force. From
July 14 to August 29, the period
of time officially designated as
Salad Season in Ontario, various
salad ingredients will be at their
prime. Lettuce of every shape
and form, tomatoes, cucumbers,
green peppers, spinach, radishes,
green onions, celery, and several
more fresh vegetables as well as
fruits used in salads are here to
enjoy.
Because the season peaks dur-
ing these six weeks of the sum-
mer, the supply will be excellent.
You can look for good prices in
supermarkets as well as at road-
side and farmers' markets for all
these salad items.
Look for featured Ontario -
grown salad ingredients every
time you shop. Remember, when
you buy local produce you can be
more assured of a fresh product.

The Grand Bend Lioness'
held their first money -making
venture Thursday with a fashion
show featuring the Mexican
collection of Carol De Gomez
from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
The show was held at the Green
Forest in Grand Bend and the -
50 or so ladies who attended
sipped wine and munched on
crackers and cheese as they
examined the 32 piece collection
modeled by members of the new-
ly formed Lioness club.
After the show the collection
was sent to the Sun Shop in
Grand Bend to be sold, those at
the fashion show getting first
chance.
The items varied from evening
gowns trimmed with lace to bath-
ing suits and coverups. Casual
wear in unbleached cotton was
trimmed with hand embroidery
in bright colors. There was some-
thing for that very special even-
ing, and something for taking it
easy, but there was one pre- .
dominating feature. Without
exception, the collection was not
only easy to wear', it was corn-
fortable, something many design-
ers seem to overlook.
The Lioness club are not offici-
ally chartered yet but have al-
ready pledged help to the Grand
Bend nursery school and have
been approached by others.
It is not known exactly how much
they made from the fashion show,
but the profits will go to help with
future projects.
