Photo by McKinley GitieTns I; :s J,it>; 7;4Q76:PageAlli Centennial parade one of the best Saturday's Centennial parade in Bayfield was one of the biggest this area has seen in a long time. Thousands of people lined the streets of the village to watch as the parade slowly wound its way across town to the Agricu- ltural grounds by the arena. There the official opening of the Centennial weekend took place with reeve Ed Qddliefson flanked by MP Bob McKinley and MPP Jack Riddell cut the ribbon held by the Centennial Queens, Peggy Campbell and Kathleen Hill. , Previous to this greetings were heard from several visiting digni- taries. Warden Jack McCutcheon brought greetings on behalf of the County and reeves and mayors from neighbouring muni- cipalities also extended con- gratulations to Bayfield. Following the official opening prizes were distributed for parade entries. The best decorated tricycle went to Peggy Bedard who was invisible inside her decorated birthday cake. Second prize went to Robbie Klaudi. Fern and Harry Baker of Bayfield took first prize for the best decorated bike as they rode their two-seater through the parade; David Stevens was second and Peter Cook third. The best pony or horse and rider went to Adam Flowers of Bayfield with Linda Hudson of Bayfield second and Darren Alexander of Zurich third. 13est light horse or pony went to Ron Getlake of Mitchell with Bud Robinson of Bayfield second and Larry Merner of Zurich third. Best draft horse turnout went to Arnold Young of Goderich with Tom Penhale of Bayfield second and Jim Achison of Lucknow third. The Blue Anchor won first prize for its entry as a commercial float. The Old Homestead of Bayfield took second while the Village Market sponsoring the cubs took third. In the non-commercial float entries the historical society took first prize with the patriotic society taking second and the library float third. Best dressed couple were Helen Bisback and Jean Ander- son with the best dressed women beng Sue Stevens. Best dressed juniors were first Mickey Stevens; second, Luanne and Lydia. Erick- son and third, Jennifer Grenier. Best clowns were Phyllis Jones, Allison Merker and Chris and Andrew Leitch. In the antique cars division, Max Watts of Brussels took first place with Bob Erb of Hensall and Don Gower of Clinton taking second and third, respectively. Harvey Boyce of London took first prize in the novelty vehicles category with his minature steamer. Rathwell's Auctions entry was second with Roberts Towing Service, third. In the Vintage Thresher com- petition, Fred Mowetts entry driven by Bill Leaning was first with Ernie Talbots entry second and Fred Labeau taking. third. The winners represented only a fraction of the total number of entries from all the neighbour- ing towns, villages and town- ships.
