Over 50 entries were accepted before the committee was forced to stop taking entries. As it was, the show ran for over three hours. There were six categories 11. the talent show, each one filled with talented entries. The calibre of talent was high and the competition was tough for com- petitors and enjoyable for the 1,300 people who packed the arena to watch. Winners in the seven to ten year old dance competition were first, Kim Fritzeley of Goderich in sailors working dance; second, Madonna McQuiad of Seaforth, a stepdancer; third, Marianne Matheson of Stratford who enter- tained in full highland attire as she did the highland fling around a pair of swords. In the eleven to teen • dancing category winners were, first, Pat Stackhouse, stepdancer; sec- ond, Ann Marie Mcquaid of Seaforth, stepdancer; third, Shel- ly and Sandra Finlayson of Kip - pen, stepdancers. The youth vocal category was the heaviest event of the evening with nine entries. First prize went to John Huether; second prize went to seven year old Julie Porter of Bayfield; and third went to Jo -Ann Sturgeon, Freda Hill, Wendy Turner and Cindy Cluff for a rousing rendi- tion of "Ob -la -de, Ob -la -da" while accompaning themselves on ukeleles. In the adult vocal category winners were first, Ron Fleming second, Albert Craig and third, Ann Marie Mercer. Group instrumentals was the next category on the agenda with Beauty and the Beasts taking first prize, the Blue Bells second and Ann Marie and Paul Mc- Quaid taking third prize. • The evening ended with the solo instrumental category where Elsner Trick of Clinton took first prize on the piano; Helen Bisback of Clinton on the harmonica was second; and Gerard Bedard of St. Joseph took third place on the piano. The Bradley family from Clint- on and the Star Trex entertained between categories to allow the judges time to reach a decision, Prizes were $25, $15 and $10. Beauty and the Beasts, who won the group instrumental donated their prize money back to the centennial committee. • ACCOMPANIMENT BY UKELES—Four Bayfield girls accompanied themselves on ukeles to win third prize in the youth vocal category of Thursday night's talent night, part of the weekend's centennial celebrations in Bayfield.
