Therefore it was with great anticipation that 45 ladies from the County of Huron set out for Charlottetown to attend the Seventh Tri -annual National Convention of the Fed- erated Women's Institutes of Canada. The theme FOCUS; "Facing Our Challenge -Unity is Strength" was emphasized by each of the speakers. Mrs. Olive Farquharson, O.B.E. President of the Associ- ated Country Womeh of the World spoke on "Facing our Challenges". Representing eight million women in her world organization, she said every individual has the power to hinder or develop some aspect of world development. Speaking again the following day on "Our International Chal- lenge -Unity in Action" she stressed that basically women's concerns are the same all over the world -child care, nutrition, helping the men in agricultural skills and homemaking skills, The women learn through A.C.- W.W. to help themselves. The opening meeting was presided over by Mrs. J.A. McLean, National President of the Federated Women's Institute of Canada. She listed some of the . 'challenges W.I. members face, the credibility they have achieved through the years, their watch -dog attitude on gover- rnment, inflation and land use and their resourcefullness in policy making organizations. Election of officers for the coming triennium, workshop dis- cussidns, a story presentation in colour and sound of the objectives of each Province and the reading of the winning Tweedsmuir Play concluded the second day of . the Convention. Paul s ACWmeet in church The regular meeting of St. Paul's A.C.W. was held in the church basement Thursday after- noon. The president, Mrs. Forrest, opened the meeting with the Members Prayer. The hymn, "Joy to the World" was sung after which Mrs. Windover read the scripture 1. John. 5 vs. 1-5. Mrs. Annie Reid gave the medi- tation and everyone took part in the Litany, which was followed by a prayer. Roll call was answered with a Bible verse containing a flower. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
