Ladies aid honour
local centennarian
The May meeting of Zion
Lutheran Church Ladies' Aid
was a mother and daughter pot
luck supper with group 1 and
Mrs. Harry Hayter convener
in charge. Seventy-six were
present including 24 Ladies'
Aid members. Honorary mem-
bers Mrs. Hilda Wein, Mrs.
Laura Datars, Mrs. Maggie Nadi -
ger and Mrs. Reinhold Miller
were head table guests. Mrs.
Susan Merner, honorary member

was visited on her 100th birthday
and presented a rose corsage.
Others not able to be present
were recognized.
Elizabeth Datars proposed a
toast to the mothers and Mrs.
Earl Keller to the daughters.
Mrs. Marvin Barz, Goderich,
returned thanks for the bountiful
supper.
Gifts were presented to Mrs.
Oluf Pedersen, lucky saucer;
Mrs. Ernest Koehler, birthday
nearest; Stacy Rader, youngest
daughter; Mrs. Lorne Becker,
youngest grandmother; Mrs.
Hilda Wein, oldest grandmother;
mother with most children in
school, Mrs. Marvin Barz (7).
The junior choir sang several
selections and Barbara and
Brenda Rader gave a reading.
Mrs, Arnold Becker, president,
conducted a brief business meet-
ing. The Altar Guild reported
22 treats, 5 phone calls, 4 treats,
and 1 bouquet. The new Guild
is Mrs. Ray VanDorsselaer and
Miss Helen Nadiger.
Mrs. Marie Tiernan showed a
film "The Kyoquat School".
This is a school in British Colum-
bia. Mrs. Joanne McKnight
spoke on Ecology boxes and had
several on display. She also
spoke on her new hobby "Quil-
ling". A draw for a mother's
day plaque was won by Mrs.
Florence Keller.

The Community Friendship
committee with Mrs. Syd Baker
in charge of the program for the
May meeting. of Calvary United
Church Women was held Tues-
day evening. It was visitation
night when members met at the
church and went out to visit the
sick and shut-ins. Everyone re-
turned to the church and shared
their experiences with the group.
Mrs. Mervyn Tiernan, presid-
ent, dealt with the business.
Sixteen members were present.
The ladies were reminded of
the visit of Dundas Street choir
May 16. The Sunshine committee
is Mrs. Lloyd Eagleson and Mrs.
Gordon Bender.

Sunday, May . 16, by Pastor
Marvin Barz, namely, Joseph
Todd Becker, Katherine Florence
Keller, Brenda Lynn MacDonald.
Brenda Grace Miller, Barbara
Jean Rader, Patti Lynn Rader
and Sandra Lee Tyler. Katherine
Keller was also baptized.
Baskets of flowers were provid-
ed by the Confirmands and the
flowers on the altar by the Ladies'
Aid.

few days in London with Mr. and
Mrs. Norman Beierling last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Oluf . Pedersen
observed their 55th wedding
anniversary Tuesday, May 11.
Mr. and Mrs. Art Haugh,
London, spent some time with
Miss Pearl Kraft last week.
Golden Age
seminar held
More than one hundred people
attended a "Seminar" held by
the "Golden Age Club" of Grand
Bend on May 12 at Village inn
Retreat Centre. Registration
began at 10 a.m. Guests from
Bayfield, Hensall and Zurich
clubs were welcomed by presi-
dent Bill Love, and Grand Bend
Reeve, Robert Sharen.
Entertainment by the "Jolly
Joys" of London was followed
by a delicious roast beet' dinner
at the Inn. Rev. Harley Moore,
introduced the guest speaker,
Miss Angela Armitt, B.A.M.A.
L.L.D. director of Summer School
and Extension Department of the
University of Western Ontario
who captivated her audience
with humour and sincerity.
After discussion of past achieve-
ments and future projects of the
clubs represented, the Jolly
Joys presented more lively
entertainment of music, readings,
and jokes, even an ordinary hand
saw and a violin bow produced
delightful melodies. A very eyc
appealing and tasty salad plate
served by thc staff of the Inn
provided a perfect ending tr

day.
