LL ABOUT BAYFIELD INTERESTING HAPPENINGS IN ONTARIO'S PRETTIEST VILLAGE Monday evening, Bayfield Council met for a special meet- ing to approve the 1976 budget; and were shocked to learn that the Huron County Board of Education mill rate for the Village is up 51 mills from 1975, which means a total of $17,596.00 extra dollars must be found to meet their budget this year. The 1976 Board of Education rate is 81 mills residential and 90 mills commerical, compared to 58 mills residential and 62 mills commercial in 1975. In 1975 the H.C. Board of Education received $50,524.00 comparedc to $68,120.00 for this year, from the Village. Marsha Triebner and Carol Penhale attended the third Annual Guiders seminar in Formosa on Saturday. They learned many new Crafts and Badge work and following a delicious banquet at noon hour toured the incredibly beautiful Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, reported to be worth more than a million dol- lars. The 3M- Club (Mr., Mrs. and Miss) and neighbours of Kathleen and John Siertsema held a sur- prise housewarming party for them following the Bean Supper at the United Church on Satur- day night. More than 35 people gathered and presented the couple with a gift of money. The Siertsema family have re- cently purchased the former residence of Rev. George Youma- toff, on Blair Road. The Leaders and Cubs of lst Bayfield Cub Pack were ready to call it all "quits" last week when they entered their Club rooms and found a dreadful mess await- ing them. The Cubs along with their leaders and the very kind assistance of Mrs. r. Hunter had been diligently working on paper-mache jungle animal heads for their customed float for the Centennial Parade on July 3; and to their horror found all the heads smashed into bits; along with maple syrup and butter smeared into their Wolf Head which had recently been pre- sented to them by Doug Sinna- nion; and maple syrup and butter rubbed into some more of their equipment. Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Armstrong and Winnie, attended the Mel- ville—Miller wedding in Fergus Melville United Church. Winnie acted as Maid of Honour for her friend Sandra Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Lynn, Etobicoke spent a few days at their residence on Bayfield Ter- race. Welcome to the village to Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Hoy who have taken up residence . in the Nor- man Talbot home on Elizabeth Street. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Merrill and Lana, Vancouver, B.C. visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Merrill of Bayfield and they all motored to Sudbury to spend a couple of days with Mr. and Mrs. Brian Merrill. Mrs. E. B. Robinson of the Albion Hotel was the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Donald McLeod in Stoney Creek for a few days last week. Blume Citizens News, April 28/76 -Page 19 irds back in Bayfield It is so long since most old- timers have seen bluebirds, they may forget that in their childhood it was the bluebirds which were the first spring arrivals; ahead of the robins. The Bayfield Area Bluebird Society has had several members report seeing bluebirds and hear- ing their lovely singing. Mr. and Mrs. J. Brown Higgins have a nest in their garden, with egg laying already started. At another of their next boses there has been fierce competition for it between a pair of bluebirds and a pair of tree swallows. The bluebird group is anxious to get for taping, and old song record entitled "There's a Blue- bird On Your Windowsill". Anyone willing to loan this record alight phone the group's secre- tary Mrs. Betty Burch. Bean supper popular The men of St. Andrew's United Church report a big suc- cess at their Annual bean supper Saturday night; and the realiza- tion of a good profit for their efforts. The next big endeavour is their Annual Auction Sale in July, consisting of donated and consignment articles. The Bayfield Ever Young Sen- ior Citizens are reminded of their regular meeting tonight, Thurs- day, April 29, in the Municipal Building. The Club president, Mrs. Esther Makins reported that they will be making the draw for the quilt and sham they quilted this past winter. She also said a few tickets are still available on the quilt and sham from her and any member of the Club. ``- `' 'x.11♦► `-'`♦11 ., ► ." ,pb` ' ' „„, :': getonoul' Fbrligsavings 1 / Viciikenst Instant Coffee MAXWELL HOUSE Javex Bleach LIQUID Tang Crystals Facial Tissues Ferguson's Honey ORANGE FLAVOUR FACELLE ROYALE 10 oz. 64 oz. 4's 100's CREAMED 21b. $2.59 574 994 2/$1 1.39 SAICO SWEET 48 oz. r c{age Juice SAICO SWEET 48 oz.
