Mrs, Herbert Maluske. Ches- ley, in her Provincial President's report, said time does have a way of speeding by when one is involved in such interesting work as the Women's Institutes. Many meetings were attended including the United Nations Association, presentation of the Entrance Awards at the Univer- sity of Guelph, College of Family and Consumer Studies, Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, etc. Plans have been formulated for the Officer's Conference, to be held at the University of Water- loo, May 4, 5 and 6. This is a training session for the office of President, Public Relations Officer of Branch, District or Area, and Members -at -large. Mrs. Earl Morden, Rodney. secretary -treasurer, of FWIO said her mailings numbered 423. From 1200 Bay St., Toronto, Mrs. S, Armstrong's numbered 1900. This does not include items mailed by the Horne Economics branch, Ministry of Agriculture and Food. $1,530 has been contributed to Nutrition Education, $1500 to Pennies for Friendship. These are projects of the Associated Countrywomen of the World. An UNESCO Gift Coupon for $1000 was purchased to aid in an International Scholarship Fund. Miss Helen M.cKercher, Home Economics Branch, Ministry of Agriculture and Food, expressed appreciation -for generous support of the W.I. members and co- operation in carrying out their programs. News Photo Hospital nay es Cann chairman Carr Cann was elected chair- man of the South Huron Hospital board .at a meeting of the direc- tors following Monday night's annual meeting. He succeeds Harry Hayter, Dashwood, NA, 110 has held the post for the past two years. • Only 15 directors were named to the board. 111 previous years there have been 19. However. the bylaws were changed last year to reduce the number. Retiring from the board are Mrs. J. G. Dunlop, Dr, Harvey Cowen. Harold Knight and Tony Charrrette. Chairman Harry Hayter paid tribute to the retiring board members, particularly Mrs. Dunlop, whom he noted had served in so many ways almost since the inception of the hos- pital. Various chairmen giving reports remarked on the fact the hospital still has not received approval from the ministry of health to proceed on the planned addition. Jim Kneale, property com- mittee, noted the hospital has been working on the addition for the past five years "and we still don't have anything." He said that the plans have received engineering approval and the "only thing" required now is ministry approval. "1 hope before I leave this board we'll see the new emer- gency building out front," he concluded, Chairman 14ayter also said he regretted the . fact the plans were not proceeding for the addition, However. he said members of this community should "be thankful for being who w e are and where we are. - Hc said the new board would face a great task in improving the facilities and service. The Dashwood man expressed thanks to everyone w ho had helped him during the past two years. In his treasurer's report, Doug Knowles noted that this year's deficit of $1.215 was one of the lowest in a number of yours. He gave those in attend- ance an interesting analysis of the source or each dollar of revenue and expense. Salaries make up over 78 cents of each dollar spent. Mrs. Roylance Wcstcott reported for the Women's Auxiliary, stating they had a membership of 134. They held eight meetings during the year and conducted 258 visits to patients. A total of 178 hours were spent in amending hospital items. while over $2,000 was spent on the purchase of new equipment. The Auxiliary assets now total just under $20,000. Other reports were given by Carf Cann for the administration management committee; Ben Hoogcnboom, public relations; Dr. Don Ecker, medical staff representative. The latter noted that the visiting interns program had commenced and to date three internists have been up from London. Dr. Ecker reported that the surgical service was "slow - going" but it was hoped that this would be increased this year. Named -to the board of direc- tors were: Carf Cann, Harold Gunn, Harry Haytcr, Jim Kneale, Doug Knowles, Walter McBride. Mrs. Glen Mickle, Ben Hoogen- boom, Robert Denney, Bob Down, Dr. Garnet Leitch and Reg Finkbciner. Appointed members are: Dr. Don Ecker, medical staff; Eldrid Simmons, county council; Mrs. Tom MacMillan, Women's Auxiliary. District basis, to ensure a better attendance. Adult Education programs promote leadership and help someone else do a better job, Information given out must be accurate. Summary of participation for 1975-76; training schools 15,190 persons, Summary Days 7000; Short Courses and Food Forums 3,380; Homemaking club mem- bers numbered 26,097. Public Relations Officer, Mrs. J. Harvey Houston, Lurk - now, publicizes FWIO activities to all parts of Ontario, and appreciation is extended to the press in all areas of Ontario. There have been 225 mailings in the interest of the Women's Institutes. Arrangements were made for reports and publicity in connect- ion with the Federated Women's institutes of Canada Convention when it meets in Charlottetown. Prince Edward Island, June 20- 24th. An encouraging report on the Erland Lee Home, was heard from the chairman Mrs. Austin S. Zoeller, New Hamburg, who is also editor of the Home and Country publication of FWIO. Ontario W.L. week at the Erland Lee Houle at Stoney Creek will he May 31 -June 4. Groups and bus loads are encouraged to visit during this time when special displays and demonstrations will be taking place. Erland Lee was co-founder of Women's Institutes with Adelaide Hoodless. Junior Women's Institute activities were reported by Mrs. Wnl. Jackson, Caledon East. There are 8 branches in Ontario with a membership of 142, This year they will award a scholar- ship to a member furthering her education. Their spring meeting will be held at Fonthill, April 24. According to the Officer Conference secretary, Mrs. Russell Campbell, Iona Station, this year's Conference will be limited, because of another booking at the University of Waterloo. Anyone cancelling out, should immediately inform Mrs. Campbell, so someone else may be allotted the space. Conference dates are May 4, 5 and 6. Plans are being formed to make use of the Women's Insti- tute Hall at the agricultural Museum at Milton. The 80th Anniversary will be celebrated in 1977. The meeting adjourned on Friday, with the annual meeting to take place at the Lord Simcoe Hotel, Toronto, November 29 and 30th; December 1, 2 and 3, 1976. BALL-MACAULAY Ltd.
