Anti-smokin

An anti-smoking program for
the Grades 4, 5 and 6 classes in
, the separate schools was endors-
ed by the Huron -Perth County
Roman Catholic School Board at
a meeting in Dublin Monday
night. The program was present-
ed to the board by Canadian
Cancer Society representatives
prior to the regular board meet-
ing, which did not get underway
until after 10:00 p.m. . when the
presentation was followed by
the board meeting in committee -
of -the -whole.
Because of the delay two
principals, Larry Cook of St.
Mary's School, Goderich, and
Ennis Murphy of St. Patrick's
School, Kinkora, who were
attending the board meeting as
observers, and the press repre-

sentative had a long wait in a
sideroom.
Resignations from the follow-
ing teachers were accepted:
Gertrude Pearson, Grades 1-2 at
Our Lady of Mount Carmel
School, RR 3, Dashwood; Mary
Coeck, Grades 3-4 at Precious
Blood School, Exeter; Bernadette
Perron, itinerant oral French
teacher of St. Boniface School,
Zurich, Our Lady of Mount
Carmel, Precious Blood School at
Exeter, and St. Janes School,
Seaforth; Aileen Craig, 40 per
cent part time principal's relief
at St. Joseph's School, Clinton..
A list of all accounts paid by
the board is to be compiled each
month and submitted for board
approval. Two trustees are to
be _appointed each month to
scrutinize the accounts prior to
board meeting. This is to be on

The Thankoffering Meeting
of the United Church Women of
St. Andrew 's Church, Kippen,.
was held on April 13 with approx-
imately 150 UCW members from
neighbouring churches as guests.
Mrs. David Cooper, President,
presided and Mrs. Ronald Mc-
Gregor conducted the devotional.
Mrs. Ross Broadfoot presided
at the organ. The hostesses were
Mrs. Bill Consitt and Mrs. David
Turner who welcomed the guests.
Mrs. D.E. Kyle and Mrs.
Norman Dickert were the ushers.
Mrs. Bruce Cann, Exeter, accom-
panied by her daughter contrib-
uted two solos. Mrs. Joanne
Dinney of Exeter Country Flow-
ers gave an interesting talk and

The board .. passed a bylaw
authorizing the issuing of a
debenture in the principal amount
of $213,000 to provide money for
the construction of the gymna-
sium addition to St. Patrick's
School, Kinkora, at an interest
rate of 81/2 per cent over a thirty
year period resulting in the total
amount payable of $475,977.50.
Trustee Ronald Marcy of
Stratford noted the education
program sponsored by the
Perth Milk Board is taking place
in Stratford this week. He
pointed out that the Perth County
Board of Education is given credit
with assistance to the Milk
Board but the Stratford Beacon
Herald omitted the Huron -
Perth County Roman Catholic
School Board which also gave
financial assistance.
Several board members
reported on the successful
education week programmes at
the various schools which they
attended during Education Week.
A key to the board room will
be issued to any board members
requesting one.
The board will protest the'
Stratford Planning Board draft
plan which requires new separate
and public schools close together
to share playground facilities.
Stratford trustee Howard Shantz
said he felt the Planning Board
was infringing on the rights of
school boards to suggest such
a proposal.
MR. AND MRS. DAVID SCHILBE
Mr. and Mrs. David Schilbe were married in St. Peter's Lutheran
Church, Zurich, on April 10, 1976. The bride was the former Irene
Duguay of St. Isidore', New Brunswick. The bride and groom's
attendants were Shelly Baker, Heley Duguay, Dan Schilbe and
Shane McKinnon. The couple will be making their home in Zurich.
